NWR: but BR!!

Mrs. Del Grosso, on July 24, 2013 at 10:30 AM Posted in Married Life 0 18

My last few posts have been about TTC. This one will be too. I've gotten A LOT of advice from you ladies about this. This will be baby #1 for both of us so that's why I have so many questions. I just want to see what you ladies say. The first day of my last cycle (when AF decided to show up) was July 14th. I was done July 18th. DH and I started TTC on Sunday the 21st. My P tracker says that I'm most fertile July 23rd-29th and my O day is July 28th. I started using the Mucinex Max Strength with 1200 MG Guaifenesin on Monday (the 22nd). I take one a day. We plan to continue to TTC until August 1st. I also started taking my prenatal vitamins Monday as well. I've never been on BC DH and I have only used condoms. Am I on the right track with trying? I haven't tried taking any ovulation tests or done my basal temp. I plan on going to the store tomorrow after work to get all of those that I need.

Thanks ladies!!!!

It will happen when it's supposed to happen- and I'm not being a b!tch.

In answer to your question, you're on the right track. I was tracking my cycles on fertility friend and KNOW when we did the deed, when I O'd, and when I found out I was pregnant with my daughter.

I didn't do any of the extras - the mucinex etc, but my ex and I did the deed SEVEN days before O (and that was it for that cycle). Scientifically speaking that makes conception next to impossible. My second daughter was 5 days before O.

When TTC, you need to get as close to O as possible (like a couple days before, the day before, and the day of), but not really after. After you O it's practically too late, but there are success stories so even that's not the rule.

I've heard doing it too frequently "waters down" the sperm count, but I don't know if that's a statement based in scientific fact, or just a rumor that gets spread around like truth on message boards.

    anyway, good luck!

In order to have the best possible sperm, you are suppose to do it every 2-3 days. Like Paris said, if you do it more often, they are not as potent. It is actually scientific fact, they have done studies.

@Paris - I know you're not being a b!tch, but it is true (it will happen when it happens). I just wanted to make sure I was on a decent track for a "better chance". This is all new to me, I think once I started checking my basal temps and doing O tests I'll understand alot more! Thanks Paris!

"Taking Charge of Your Fertililty" is a great book if you want to learn about charting and why/how it works. Easy to read, and I found it really interesting.

I charted to increase my chances of getting pg, but I also charted to avoid later because it really does work when you follow the rules. I'm on BC now because with 2 kids I'm not guaranteed consecutive nights of uninterrupted sleep which you need in order to chart effectively.

The most important factor is timing sessions with ovulation. Your tracker can only give you an expected time - it may not be accurate at all. To really narrow it down, you'll need to start temping, recording signs, and/or taking OPKs. Everything else the other ladies said about timing is true. I don't really buy into the Mucinex thing, and I definitely wouldn't waste money on that over buying a basal themometer or a pack of OPKs.

@MrsDelGrosso - that's kind of my point as far as it will happen when it happens.

You can do everything under the sun in order to give you the best chance possible, and not get pregnant. You can also not do a damn thing except have sex simply because you want to and then you find out you're pregnant.

I understand wanting to put the odds in your favor (I did the same thing), but don't forget babymaking is supposed to be fun. It shouldn't be a second job :-)

I think the "it needs to happen NOW" mentality is setting yourself up for disappointment.

Think of it this way, every month it doesn't happen is another month to save money, drink booze, sleep in, and enjoy life as it is now.

@Kacey - Yes there are I'm on them. But I've known the WW ladies for a while and most of them have kids (no offense to the ladies NOT on WW) but I trust these ladies more!

I think www.thebump.com might be better then WW for baby making advice.

@Amy, this sounds unsexy but it definitely doesn't have to be...I think there might be a little overzealousness (is that a word) going on here. I think MrsD is just really excited.

@Kacey, yeah there are, but we're a tight community that discusses anything and everything. Thus the "NWR" in the title.

Oh man, this is intense. we're planning to start TTC next month. my plan is to have sex a bunch with no protection and let things happen when they happen. never even occured to me to do anything more than that! what is this thing about mucinex?! all i can think about is that creepy talking blob of mucus from the commercials. talk about unsexy!

i do track my cycle on an app on my phone just so i'll know if i'm late (otherwise i'm terrible at keeping track).

@Julie A - I read an article on babycenter.com about the mucinex thing. Theres an (only) ingredient in it called Guaifenesin apparently (Guaifenesin has been promoted to facilitiate conception, by thinning and increasing cervical mucus, during the few days before ovulation., found this on wikipedia). I read alot of comments from the article from ladies who it took months to TTC and ended up taking this and got pregnant that same month. I'm actually gonna stop taking it after today. If you want to try it, get the Mucinex Max Strength (1200 MG of Guaifenesin). Good Luck!! I'm just gonna continue my prenatal vitamins but everything else is gonna be all natural now!

Join "my fertility friend" it's free and helps you temp etc. You are right about the guaifenesin and I used it

    <<

took 2 mths to get pregnant. I went off the pill the day of the wedding, however I was on folic acid (it is recommended not sure if prenatal vitimins are until your preg) for about 4 mths prior. We tempd and I also did the ovulation kit (cheapo ones from teh dollar store, twice a day from about 7 days after my period ended till I got a positive ovulation day) We also DTD from about day 10- day 17 just to be sure Smiley smile

my tip... enjoy sushi, deli meats, special cheeses, and wine while you still can.

4 weeks one day and counting I can NOT wait to have some smoked salmon again.

@ Mrs. del Grosso ... you should also try to not obsess over it. Because that has been proven to hinder conception. Try to relax and don't be disappointed if it takes a few months.

Thanks for the tips ladies. I'm more excited that we started trying rather than getting excited for a possibility of being a pregnant. I've waited 2 years to start trying and I finally can without DH saying no. I know there's a high possbility that I could or could not be pregnant the first time around. I asked about this on WW because I'm already on babycenter.com, don't know too many ladies even though they are there for the same thing. I'm asking on here because I know the ladies and I know they can help me no matter what topic I'm posting about. I've been on thebump before and unless they got super popular over the last few months I've never seen to many people post on there. I don't want to wait any longer for this. I've had my time to drink, party (did most of this before I was 21), I don't sleep much as it is. I'm ready for mommyhood. This is all I've wanted for the longest time. If DH was down for it I would've had a kid before we got married.
