Activated charcoal. I bought some on amazon for $25 and the difference after only six days was remarkable.

I use Crest whitening strips, I got the store brand once and it gave me burns on my gums. Definitely worth spending the extra on Crest!

My dentist gave me a free sample of Crest white strips. They work great, but I have had some sensitivity.

@ Leah S. Thanks for the activated charcoal tip! I never knew that!!

I like crest white strips. Costco has a good 2-for-1 deal, FH and I usually go in on them together every 6 months.

I use opalescence go. Ask your dentist about it. Has an ingredient in it that lowers sensitivity and fluoride as well. Costs $35 but probably different from office to office...but you can get anything off Amazon cheaper.

@Robynne that's another reason I like activated charcoal. Whitening strips always hurt my teeth SO much.

I work in a dental office and you cannot go wrong with getting whitening trays made. They can cost some money but that way you are able to get higher strength whitening percentages and get results faster. I dislike the crest white strips because they really don't seat well where your teeth meet making the color uneven, in my opinion.

I read that activated charcoal strips the enamel on your teeth.

Edit: so that's why I'm shying away from it.

Activated charcoal or crest white strips. I prefer the charcoal though, the crest white strips tend to make my teeth sensitive.

If you use a whitening product with chlorine dioxide in it you are also damaging your enamel, so just be wary of that when you buy products. There just isn't enough research about the use of activated charcoal use over time and that's been the main reasoning behind medical pros saying to be cautious about it. They are also concerned about the abrasiveness of the powder.

Agree with the crest white strips but go slowly. Like PPs have said they made my teeth super sensitive. Especially when I've used them the 10 or 14 days in a row. I found it a lot easier on my teeth and effective to do one every few days or a one a week instead and do it gradually! But def white strips. I like the ~$45 ones (glamorous white I think). I tried the cheaper ones and didn't have as great results.

The white strips hurt my teeth. Like I feel it when they are on. I want to try the activated charcoal but I'm scared.

I've used Crest white strips for years, with tons of compliments on my teeth. I think they make them noticeably white without the chiclet looks you can get from too much whitening. I wouldn't consider professional whitening worth it based on knowing how great the strips are. I don't actually want my teeth to be more white!

I would start with the sensitive line though. The stronger ones hurts my teeth/gums.
