NWR: Baby gift

brieliz, on August 8, 2016 at 1:58 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 13

So excited but just found out my work friend is pregnant! Her family isn't too thrilled (bc of the guy & they aren't married) but I wanted to get her a little something to say congrats. She conceived in June so no sex determined yet. What are some cute little gift ideas? I literally know no babies.

I personally would get something for her! Maybe her favorite food, book, or a gift card somewhere. After some time as passed and the sex as been determined, then get a gift for the baby, to me it is a little too soon to purchase an item for the baby.

You can never have enough receiving blankets, restaurant gift cards (for after the baby is born), size 1&2 diapers, wipes, sudocream, Spa certificate for mom.

I love shopping for baby clothes! You can alot of gender neutral clothes in the smaller sizes...No mom can ever have too many onesies (sp?)!

Unless she's past the first trimester, I would get something for her like decaf tea, a restaurant gift card, etc. If past the first trimester, a cute gender neutral outfit if you want something cute - if you want practical, diapers or wipes.

ETA: I like ELK's suggestion of a Target gift card! That way she can use it whenever she wants and it's not taking up space. Diapers and such are great but it's highly unlikely they already have a place for baby stuff this early.

I would get things to pamper her. Make her feel special. Add in the book What to Expect While You're Expecting.

From experience: get her a certificate to get a pedicure later down the road. There's no better feeling than having someone rub hot stones on my legs and feet now that they're starting to swell.

But if you want to stick with something for the baby, I say stick with diapers and wipes. People will buy clothes left and right and baby will grow out of them quickly but they'll go through diapers and wipes like water.

The other half of the centerpiece here!

I have a now almost 7 year old.. BUT the baby shower seems like yesterday...

The BEST gifts I got (where I thanked the giver daily in my head)..

A BIG playpen - not a pack and play. My Mom found a BIG ($ feet by 4 feet) playpen online. He LIVED in there when I was cooking/cleaning/working. It was 4x the size of the pack and play which.. sorry - no room for play!

    A Johnny-Jump-Up

    Swing

But for a work friend? I had a friend get me a ton of little cotton pieces from walmart - little pants, shirts, onesies in primary colors (I have a boy) - but in sizes 12 and 18 months. They grow out of the baby stuff INSTANTLY! Those dozen pieces saved my life haha

At work we always do a diaper shower in our department when someone is expecting (we do it for men and women) and it's always a huge hit! We get a card that everyone signs, and everyone pitches in together for a cake. I buy some little decorations like tablecloth, paper centerpieces and banner from the dollar store/party city and everyone brings a package of diapers! Its an easy way to include men too, who are sometimes intimidated by baby stuff haha.

If you don't see yourself hosting a work shower like that, I would say baby books or a gift card to a place like Target with a card would always be a great gift!
