NWR Anyone have any experience with Wawanesa Insurance?

Mrs., on January 28, 2011 at 3:14 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

These reviews scare me :-( http://www.yelp.com/biz/wawanesa-auto-insurance-san-diego

DH and I just signed up for them because they would save us $500 a year on car insurance and give us more coverage and lower deductibles. I think they are a low risk company because a long time ago when I tried applying they would not accept me. I'm surprised they accepted us actually when I got a ticket in August last year but I did take traffic school for it. We sent in our application and check for our first payment and the check was cashed so I assume we were approved. I'm going to call on my lunch and double check or else be like give me my money back lol I have only had one experience with them when they were the insurance of a woman that rear ended DH and I and had no problems. It does sound like if you got a ticket or in an accident, especially if you're at fault, that they would drop you. DH and I are pretty good drivers though and I figure it's worth the savings and if something..

...ever happened and they dropped us we'd either go running back to our old insurance Farmer's or run some quotes and go with someone else decent. Farmer's is pretty decent but the $500 savings, more coverage, and lower deductibles would be nice.

I'm with wawanesa right now, I've had no issues with them as of yet. I'd never heard of them before we signed up, but my dad said that he knew them to be a reputable company.

@Analy We applied for and got a quote online. Then the directions said to mail in the internet quote with the application and a check for the first payment. So that's what we did. Actually I just called to check the status and we were in fact denied. I like how they just cashed the check automatically... *insert eye roll here* They said a refund was mailed out yesterday. Since they are in the same city I would expect to get that refund today or tomorrow.

I am sure they are profitable if they instantly drop drivers who get a ticket, sounds like a company I would like to invest in.

Can we say, unethical? I don't like. That is all.

@Analy Yeah that totally rubbed me the wrong way. That and all the scary bad reviews they have on the internet make me feel like we dodged a bullet...

We have Wawanesa for our home owners insurance (in Canada though - not sure if the US subsidiary is the same). I have nothing but good things to say about them after our break-in. They were very professional and helpful, had our claim processed and money in our hands within a few weeks. They even gave me no grief over the jewelry I couldn't substantiate (was given a lower rate but that's to be expected). If only they could have helped with the emotional trauma Smiley smile
