NWR: Any petite ladies use Rent the Runway? Mrs. CK?

Reese, on January 14, 2016 at 8:26 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8

I got invited to a formal wedding and think I should wear a longish dress. I don't want to spend a ton of money on a dress I'll rarely wear, so I'm looking at Rent the Runway. My problem is I can't hem these dresses so I need to make sure I'm not dragging 6" of dress around.

I'm 5' on a good day and always wear heels to formal events, but that still makes me only about average.

Have any minis on here gotten long dresses from Rent the Runway and made them work? There are some high-low dresses that I think would still work for a formal wedding, but I would really like to know if a floor-length dress is even doable.

Read the comments- there are several I looked at that had issues with being sort for taller women- I'm 5'8" and there were dresses that were too short supposed to be floor length.

My friend uses it- and has had great results- just make sure you order well enough in advance and you get 2 sizes. But give it a shot.

I haven't rented any long dresses, so I can't tell you from experience. But depending on the dress you could buy temporary hem tape, and hem the dress yourself. I use "Hollywood Fashion Tape" all the time and have used it for hems before. You just fold up the edge of the dress evenly, press it, then add tape all the way around. The tape comes off without a trace.

Natalie, thanks for the advice! I've used fashion tape before, but only to stick clothes to myself, not hem things and I wasn't sure how well that would work. Does it hold really well? Maybe I'll test it out on some of my own clothes.

What everyone else said re read the reviews and have some fashion tape as a back up. I'm 5'2" and have rented a couple of long dresses from there no problem.

I'm 5' and I've only gotten shorter dresses from RTR for this reason. I have used fashion tape to do a quick hem and it works really well, stayed for me. I would just read the reviews. Some dresses run long but some of them I think are ok. Thankfully so many people leave reviews which helps a ton.

When I have used fashion tape to hem, it held really well. I did use a lot of tape though. I taped all the way around the hem, not just spots here and there.

Yes, I did this. I got a reception dress for my wedding. I am 5' 2'.

Look for dresses that come in petites, they are naturally shorter. A 4 petite is made for 5' 6" and under where are a regular 4 is made for up ti 5' 10".

Thanks everyone! This really helps a lot! I have been reading the reviews, but when I try to filter by people my height, I get reviews from people all the way up to 5'7", which are no help at all. I'll just try to find something in my size and rely on fashion tape for the rest!
