NWR...5 hour layover in Atlanta

FromOToP, on August 10, 2017 at 4:38 PM Posted in Planning 0 13

FH and I will be having a five hour layover in Atlanta next weekend on our way back home from Florida, does anyone have any suggestions on what we can do in our five hours at the Atlanta airport? Is there anything we have to see while we're there? Suggestions would be great Smiley smile Thanks everyone!

So here's the thing- there's nothing close to the Atlanta airport since the airport is south of the city. You have to do stuff in the actual airport. Since the airport is huge something cool to do is walk from terminal to terminal. They have a lot of history and each of the halls between terminals has a different theme. Also you have to try one flew south for food while you are in the airport!! Awesome food, I believe it's in concourse e.

Also there is free wifi, perks of being the busiest airport in the world.

Atlanta is actually not a bad airport for a long layover, since it's super busy and has tons of restaurants. If I were you, I'd get on the Plane Train and stop at every terminal, find someplace cool-looking, and have a drink in each one! (Maybe not a good idea if you don't have a high alcohol tolerance though...)

If you're coming back internationally, just remember you have customs and security to go through. It could eat up some of that time.

It's all domestic! Thanks for the suggestions so far; kind of scared about the fact that it's the busiest airport...

OP, don't be scared. It's busy, but it's navigable. I would rather fly through Atlanta than JFK any day.

I fly from western NY to the west coast regularly, and if at all possible I fly through Atlanta. I second One Flew South! And FutureMrsB is right; don't be nervous. It's big and busy, but honestly one of the easiest-to-navigate airports I've been to.

Atlanta is HUGE! There are tons of shops and restaurants! FH and I are vacation in FL now and just had about an hour and half layover there, which translated to about 40 minutes waiting for our next plane. But walking through, it was like a freaking mall! The place is huge, there's no shortage of things to keep you entertained.

Five hours actually is not that long when you're at a busy airport. Sometimes it could take an hour or more just to get from one terminal to another. Also there are times your first flight could be delayed. My recommendation is to find your connecting flight's terminal first, then relax, eat a meal, etc. This way you know how much time to give yourself to get back for boarding.

I love One Flew South. The food and drinks are delicious. I posted my Yelp review.

I also like to chill in terminal F. It's their newest terminal so it's not as busy and they have great bars.

Hartsfield Airport is huge and only slightly less horrible than JFK or LAX. Go shopping and take a good book.
