Number of marriage license copies?

I only got one but where I live, getting more is as simple as going to the ROD and getting one printed right in front of you.

The recommendation is to get 2 or 3.

Depends on how many places you need to change your name. I got 5 copies due to TSA precheck, passport, and pharmacy licenses in multiple states I had to update. DMV, bank, and social security office just made photocopies of the original.

@windowschick So do the places that you listed not accept just plain photocopies?

When we looked online it said 30$ each additional copy!! Shoot!

I tell my couples 2-4. I have never heard of anyone keeping the 'real' copy except for HR depts. Almost everyone else will want to see a real certificate but make a copy. Passport agencies will want your real one, but they will return it.

I got 5 so I could have several things going at once (I have to send one to the State Bar, one for my passport, one to HR, and one to social security, and one to my loan company). I have gotten all of them back except the one I gave to HR.

I was always told to get 3

I got 4 and I've been fine so far! A lot of the places I've been changing my name will accept scanned copies of these documents (credit card companies, airmiles programs etc.)
