Number of guests invited versus number of guests attended

Crystal, on April 5, 2016 at 2:52 AM Posted in Planning 0 10

For those of you who have had your big day how many guest did you invite to your wedding versus the number of guests who actually attended. I'm making my guest list now and I'm thinking some of our guest won't attend our wedding, but I just wanted to get a feel as to how many people usually RSVP that they can't make it...and those that don't show up after the RSVPs go out and they've said yes regarding attending. What was your experience with your reception guest, or was it no problem and everything smooth?

A few things. 1. You must budget for 100% attendance regardless of how many you expect to show. If less than that show, you save money. But don't invite someone unless you can afford to host them properly

    2. The figure that gets tossed around is an average 20% decline rate. This means very little though. If you search through other threads, some brides get a 100% acceptance, some as low as 30-40%. Smaller guest lists tend to have a higher acceptance rate (you're generally inviting mostly your nearest and dearest which wouldn't miss it for the world) and people that invite everyone they know have a lower rate. Again, you can't assume anything about your own rate, these are just trends.

    3. You might get a few that RSVP yes and no show. Life happens. Again, read other threads. Some people get ill, some people have travel difficulties, some people just suck. If it happens, there's nothing you can do about it so no sense in worrying about it. Again, you have to plan to host everyone that RSVPs yes.

We're expecting 40% to decline because 1) a lot of our invitees are FH's family members that he's not terribly close to and 2) the wedding will require a 6+ hour plane ride for more than 80% of the guest list.

It really depends! If most of your guests live close to you (and your wedding), I would expect a much higher acceptance rate than if it's further away.

We invited 310 and 292 showed up. Smiley smile We knew 10 of them wouldn't make the plane ride across the country. The remaining 8 had things come up like sickness or work.

I am a example of BUDGET for every guests, which I did. I am waiting on 2 RSVPs, the rest all accepted, so I am looking at a nearly 100% acceptance.

We've budgeted for 100% acceptance. But, we're in the middle of receiving rsvps now and (though most are still outstanding), our decline rate is at 20%. That could change over the next 3 weeks, but 20% is average. Also, nearly half of our guests are OOT. Local people are more likely to attend, so that's another factor.

Agree with PP, budget for 100% attendance.

We invited 255 and had exactly 200.

We invited 136 and we have 64 coming. I wanted a smaller wedding so I'm very happy about it. 80% of our guests are OOT and out of the country. We gave everyone who is single a plus one (except widows, his grandmothers and my mom) not one person is bringing a plus one. All our single friends are coming alone.
