Number of bartenders seems low

Keri, on July 29, 2019 at 11:45 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 14

Our venue required a specific company for bar service. We are having beer, wine, and liquor. Party time! Anyways, in the contract there is no mention of number of bartenders (already signed and doesn't matter because we have to use this specific company). When I asked about the number of bartenders provided, they said the "general rule of thumb" was 1 for every 75 people. We expect anywhere from 125-155. So unless 151 people come, we will have two bartenders.

For those who had a similar guest count, are two bartenders for up to 150 people enough? Because there isn't a specific number listed in the contract, should I request more (I'm sure I'd probably need to pay extra)?

I hate waiting in line for a drink at weddings (even when it is free)! Smiley smile

My venue required 1 bartender for every 50 guests so in your case if you expect up to 150 guests then 3 bartenders is a good number. Each bartender would add an increased fee but would be worth it so your guests get great service,

Ours also requires one bartender for every night 75 guests. We've also hired a bar back to help out, but we may up the count to a third bartender. If you think about it, the only time there's really going to be a mad rush is right at the beginning of cocktail hour (assuming you're having one). If you can handle a line during that, you're probably ok for the rest of the night.

That does seem a little low.
I believe we have 2 bartenders for 250 people. But we are only doing beer and wine.

My cousin had 2 bartenders for about 150 guests. There was a bit of a line when we first got to the cocktail hour area but thats because everyone was looking for their first drink. After that, there was never a line. They had beer, wine, & full bar.

We have assigned 3 bartenders for 114 guests invited and will probably have less when all is said and done. Don't know if they'll drop off a bartender then. The amounts of workers was dependent on the guest size. So they said it could be adjusted any time. I think this could vary by venue. I think they base it off of their bartenders and how fast they are. If you are still concerned it doesn't hurt to ask!!

The average where I am is about 1:100 ratio. Our venue is offering 2 bartenders for our wedding because they have 2 dedicated bar areas.

2 seems low! We had 100 guests and served wine only and had 2 bartenders. I’d consider hiring a third if it’s in your budget... also depends on how much you expect people to drink. If you don’t have many heavy drinkers and don’t expect the bar to be swarming all night then it probably won’t be bad only having 2. It’s really a “know your crowd thing”..... how busy do you expect the bar to get??

Coming from a different angle. I was a bartender for 5 years and did lots of private events. Usually for crowds up to about 120-150 (for formal gatherings) we had two bartenders. For less formal sometimes we would only use one bartender. 2 realistically should be fine though. I've never bartended an event that size with more than one other bartender and we did fine and there was no excessive waits. We have 1 bartender for our 100 person wedding per the company we are using.

We had 149 rsvp (probably 130-135 showed up 🙄) and we had 2 bartenders. I never noticed a line and we had a full open bar.

We had 2, for 120 on opposite sides of the room and a full open bar and it was fine.

We had 2 bars set up 1 on each side of the room) and 2 bartenders for 115 people. There never really seemed to be a line.

We are inviting 150 people and having 2 bartenders. However, water, soda, and beer will be in tubs for guests to serve themselves. The bartenders will only have to pour drinks for alcohol.
