Noticed something about my alterations that I'm worried about

Gwendolyn, on July 30, 2020 at 3:03 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12

My wedding has been delayed until next summer due to COVID - so my dress is already finished and is now stowed away into my closet. When I got home and looked at it again, I noticed something I hadn't before. My seamstress had cut the sheer shoulders to give more space for my chest (the sheer was previously cutting into my shoulders) so she added lace that matched my gown. I noticed that she also added some more sheer... and that it's double over, doesn't match, and I can see the seam.

Is this noticeable? Fixable (by someone else)? Should I even bother?

Here is the other shoulder, that doesn't have a seam:

I can see it because you pointed it out, but I never would have noticed it otherwise. If you think it’s something that will bother you, it’s worth taking to another seamstress for a second opinion.

Can you post pictures where we can see both straps from the front and back?

I can! Now that I'm seeing it on I guess it isn't SUPER apparent... I really wish I would have noticed when it was being done though.

Here is the last fitting (where I didn't notice the shoulder - in this image it is the right side)

Because it's asymmetrical from the front I really don't notice it. And it looks the same in the back. If it really bothers you, look around, but I really don't think it's noticeable. Even with the super zoom. That's just one woman's opinion. But I'm super detail oriented

I wouldn't have noticed! I think she layered it because it should help it have more structure and be more sturdy so that it won't cut into you so badly. The thinner it is, the more scratchy it's going to be. I think it looks asymmetrical, but if it's going to bother you, get a second opinion from another seamstress. It can definitely be fixed, and relatively inexpensive at that, but no need to spend the money if it won't make a difference in how you feel about and in your dress! I love the dress, btw! It's beautiful and flatters you. Good luck ❣️

I honestly don't see it, even when I'm looking for it in the blown up photos. Like a pp said, especially because of the asymmetrical design, I don't think ANYONE but you will notice. Beautiful dress (and bride!). Smiley heart

She may have made it deliberately that one so that it didn’t tear. I don’t think anyone will notice. But if it bother you ask her about it.

Thank you everyone! I had to think about it a little more and reading all of these comments helped, I stared at myself in the dress for awhile and can't see it at all - I only notice it on the hanger. After spending so much time and money already on it, and for the structural integrity of the new strap, I'm going to just try to keep all of your comments in mind! Thanks again ladies Smiley heart
