Not wanting to bustle

Charlotte, on August 13, 2019 at 1:11 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 13
I ordered my dress online and it fits pretty perfectly. I’m 6’0” and needed zero alterations. I have a small train that’s a soft/light tulle with a silk slip underneath. It has the loop which I’ve read is for hanging versus holding, but I’m tempted to just hold it up anyway, either by that or just holding the dress itself. I called several alterations places and the ones with decent reviews in my area are astronomically expensive (like $500 to bustle!) so I would be trying to do it myself. Thoughts on just leaving it?

It doesn’t look very long. You might be ok without a bustle.

I've seen a few brides on here just use the loop and I love it so much that I'm going to do it also! I may remove the one for handing and add a loop in like fuchsia or oxblood or some crazy color. It sounds like a good idea in my head...I dont wanna pay $500 for a bustle. I don't like the look and half the time it breaks or your helper can't figure it out. know cuz I didn't do my sister's right and it broke. I'll just tack the free end of the loop to the bottom with a piece of white cloth so it doesn't get dirty and then cut it free after the wedding.

I would honestly just leave it as is. The train doesn't look very long- do you need to hold it at all? Maybe just for dancing? I love your dress. I feel like a bustle will interfere with the look.

I specifically had my tulle train made shorter so I wouldn't have to bustle it and it's about the length of yours in this picture. I think you should be fine but I recommend dancing around your house in it, with your shoes on, to make sure you don't step on it too much while enjoying your reception on the dance floor.

You'll definitely want some kind of bustle. That wrist loop will get really heavy. My H was stepping on my dress all night long and I even had a bustle...it drove me insane lol. You might be able to do a a simple bustle on your own, just make sure to use really heavy duty thread. Just a single point (I think it is called an American bustle?) would for the this dress! You'll need someone to help you, but it is probably doable.

That dress looks amazing on you by the way!!!

I’m planning to do the wrist loop. I hate how bustles looked when I looked them up.

I can hold it easily, it really isn’t heavy. I think I’d be able to deal with it for a few hours! I just don’t know if that looks trashy...or if I even care. 😂

My dress also has a minimal train, so I'm having it hemmed off to avoid needing a bustle.

Coming from someone who works in the bridal gown world, if you aren't wanting to bustle I would have a new loop sewn in. The loop that comes on the dress is meant to hold the train on a hanger and is not going to be strong enough to deal with all of the hugging and moving you will be doing. I would call a few other places about a bustle though. I've never heard of a bustle costing that much unless its on something super detailed and big. I wouldn't think a bustle for your dress should cost more than $75 and that's pushing it.

My wedding’s in the 25th, do you think any place could get a bustle done that quick? I’m debating doing a simple sturdy one myself because I have sewing experience, I just haven’t worked with this material.

They might be able to, but they would probably charge a rush fee to do it.
