Not walking down the isle for practice

Mrs. M, on January 10, 2017 at 8:16 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 29

Hi everyone. My friend's son just got married and during the ceremony rehearsal the bride to be didn't walk down the isle. Her aunt told my friend it's bad luck. So now I'm wondering if I want to do the practice walk. How many of you have heard of this? Have done this? Or plan on doing this?

P.S. I haven't changed my avatar as I'm on my phone.

Yep. Your marriage will definitely be doomed if you walk down the isle before your wedding.

For safe measures, I would refrain from walking until this moment. Just to be safe.

Your friend's aunt it correct. Definitely don't practice anything related to walking down the aisle.

Proper usage of a word is hard! Okay! Smiley smile)

No. that is ridiculous. You're marriage is only doomed if you let it be.

Please don't put any stock in superstitions. Those won't doom your marriage. Selfishness, lack of communication, pride, etc. are what you need to worry about instead.

It's an old wives tale but I'm not going to walk down the aisle or kiss at the alter during rehearsal. It's that same sort of thing as something borrowed, something blue. It's just old tradition but I think its fun.

I've never heard of this. But I'm walking down steps so I will take my chances and practice walking down the AISLE!

Silly superstition that has absolutely no business being introduced into real life. And if you're walking an isle, you're either Gilligan, the Skipper, a millionaire (and his wife), a movie star, the professor, or Maryanne. If you're a bride-to-be, you're walking the aisle.

It helped take some of my nerves away, honestly. Being able to practice walking is more important than it seems.

Won't affect anything if you do or don't. Just like @Erin, I won't walk down at the rehearsal just cause I think those different wedding traditions are fun Smiley smile

Totally agree with @Erin here that it's right in line with something old. Nothing bad will happen and the roof will not fall upon you (hopefully) regardless of whether you practice the walk or not. No bride in my (southern) family has ever walked the aisle in rehearsal, so I probably won't either.

Meh. I don't believe in those superstitions. But I'll have a "fill in" during rehearsal, someone to walk down for me so that I can see everything from the outside. I don't want to walk down until the exact moment of the wedding. Also, it's just fun to uphold a tradition.

It might be a southern thing. I've been to about 15 wedding rehearsals in the south, and the bride never walks down. Usually a friend or female relative of the bride walks down in her place and the bride watches from the back and offers constructive feedback or helps the coordinator/wedding director organize the people. If she does go to the front, she'll walk around the pews of the church on the side aisle and avoid the center aisle.

She should just not walk at all- anywhere- just to be safe.
