For the venues you decided NOT to book, what were your dealbreakers? What did the venue have (or not have) that made you decide to walk away? One of the venues my husband and I looked at had a small staircase in the middle of the dance floor! Alcohol, dancing, and stairs don't really mix well, so we...

One of the venues my husband and I looked at had a small staircase in the middle of the dance floor! Alcohol, dancing, and stairs don't really mix well, so we removed that one from our list of possible venues.

30-40 minutes away is quite a drive! I totally understand why you wanted to find something a bit closer to the accommodations.

Experience and reputation are definitely important! If the overall reviews aren't great, that's a dealbreaker for me.

A hot venue on a summer day sounds brutal! I don't blame you for deciding against that venue, I'm sure your guests appreciate you taking their comfort into consideration too!

I just didn’t want them in the same room. I don’t like sitting at tables for the ceremony, and it’s awkward rearranging the space between ceremony and reception. The place I ended up with had a little chapel for the ceremony and a hall next door for the reception.

    "Banned from Italy", lol 😂

Those red flags are all totally valid, and good that you were able to notice those issues before booking! The unwillingness to do a tasting would be my top red flag/dealbreaker.

I completely agree. My husband and I didn't want our ceremony and reception in the same room at the same venue either, and that was a dealbreaker for us too. We'd previously attended a few weddings where the venue had to do a room flip in between the ceremony and reception, and it always felt chaotic. We ended up finding a venue that had multiple spaces. Awesome that your venue had separate spaces for you to use!

Yeah, it was just way to much to ask. We really lucked out though and ended up booking accommodations, ceremony and reception all within walking distance, along with two restaurants and a bar so guests literally don't need to drive anywhere unless they want to. And we found a couple scenic spots to do couple portraits so we're getting both the convenience and naturey photos that we wanted - best of both worlds!
