Not Inviting Former Co Worker

Jennifer, on August 22, 2022 at 4:06 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 3

So my husband and I are being thrown a BBQ by our in-laws as a belated celebration for people who didn't come to our wedding in Arizona. We had a small COVID wedding so we had 35 people and that was it. They wanted to have some people over just to pop in and say hello. We've been given the option to invite co-workers and we decided on a select few we each are close with. However, there was a former co worker I decided not to invite because 1) since she quit, she created drama at our office place and I don't want that around our celebration 2) we're not as close anymore. I am worried that it will get back to her. What do I say if it does?

You don't have to explain your reasoning to guests you did not invite, don't worry! If she says something about being hurt, just explain to her it was intimate and you invited your closest friends. If she gets upset, it's unfortunate, but so be it Smiley smile

You dont need to worry yourself with nonsense if you decided not to invite her so what. And she quit the only that she would know if another coworker mentioned it too her. You don't owe her or anyone else no explanation on why this person wasn't invited to your event. Enjoy your reception Congratulations to you and your husband

Coworkers are generally not invited unless you are super close to them so you are regularly socializing after working hours. There is no reason to invite this person nor any reason to feel bad that you didn’t invite them.
