Not hiring a DJ?

FutureMrsAF, on June 18, 2017 at 7:14 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 5

So we are not hiring a DJ, we are having a brunch wedding and don't really plan on having dancing. More of a get together to mingle and enjoy the morning with family instead of a party vibe (still serving alcohol though). Did anyone not hire a DJ? How did you do ceremony/background music?

I've been looking into Bluetooth speakers and this app that lets you coordinate a list of songs for the ceremony. Thinking about that, but concerned because I don't want to have to ask a guest to start/stop the music. It also concerns me that the app might malfunction etc. Did anyone else go this route and how did it work out for you? I would hate to regret it!

A DJ is also responsible for acting as an Emcee and "herding cats" as I like to say. If you are not having ceremony music, or already have that sorted, and if you are not doing first dances, official cake cutting, or anything else requiring everyone's attention, just play some tunes like at a party... But I can say that what I would play isn't likely what everyone else would like, and I have zero idea how to set a mood. Do you?

It's a good save on money but you may need a makeshift dj to start and stop the music when you don't want it to be played. I think it's a great idea overall for a brunch though

We are having a string quartet. Another option is a harpist. I think either would be great options for what you are doing.

@jess'sgirl, I will probably come up with a mix of easy going music that I think everyone will enjoy Smiley smile

@la tasha, I have a DOC, so I may ask her if she could do it.. I don't see why not!
