Not having dancing as the main activity

Lena, on December 8, 2019 at 12:12 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 8
Hello!

Neither myself nor my fiancé particularly like dancing. We will likely still get a dj/have music, but we don’t want people pressuring us to dance all night (we’d like to actually enjoy our wedding). Any tips for things to occupy people that isn’t dancing? For others who also don’t enjoy dancing, did your guests bug you to come have fun and dance?
Wedding will be indoors in January, no children.

My fiancé and I are the same way! Ours is outdoors so we are doing lawn games like corn hole, bocce ball, ring toss etc. we are also going to have a table full of games indoors like cars, dominos, etc. for all the people who don’t want to dance as well.

At our DW with 15 guests we enjoyed background music during dinner & dessert. Everyone had a great time, no dancing required. It is a good idea to have food stations to help guests mix & mingle (or a bar guests can go to). An appetizer table, a dessert or coffee bar.

I like dancing and I probably spent 20 minutes doing it at my own wedding. I wouldn’t worry too much about people pressuring you.

My FH and I don’t like dancing either. We are having 20+ easy to learn board games for people (we and some friends usually play board games once a month as a get together) to enjoy as well as soft background music and food stations.

I would just have some other things for guest to do instead of dancing, so it doesn't feel like you all are just staring at an empty dance floor. For example, giant jenga, photo booth, cool lounge seating, wine or cocktail tasting, caricatures, etc.

The best way to kill the dance vibe is the music. Play music that feels more like background music vs get on the floor. Also make sure there is no "dance floor" type space at the reception. A few may still ask if you're doing a first dance, but the majority should figure it out pretty quickly.

I went to a wedding with no dancing. They had a photobooth, some stations where people could leave advice and what not. But generally people just mingle.

Maybe some fun games, like the type of games that are normally done at a shower. shoe game, "who said", under over.
