Not having a videographer

Samantha, on April 5, 2017 at 11:00 AM Posted in Planning 0 20

Right now, hiring someone to do a video of the wedding isn't in the budget. I know how nice they can be so maybe that will change but I'm looking for alternatives or any creative ideas Smiley smile

I'm not either and I go back and forth about it all the time but it's just not in the cards at the moment. I'd love to hear little alternatives too!

I know this is out-there but ive seen it done and it turns out so nice. I have a good friend that just brought a drone- i asked him to fly it some (we have an indoor/outdoor reception) he was pumped about it and i cant wait to see how it turns out

I've seen people have a go-pro and just pass it around to people! It was a fun and different perspective

I'm 100% getting one. After looking at the videos my videographer did I couldn't say no, they are so beautiful! If it's not in the budget I've seen places for like 200 dollars rent out GoPro like cameras and your guests can capture special moments throughout the ceremony/reception

We actually got lucky and out photographers just bought their video equipment and asked if we didn't mind them using it at our wedding to do a short video clip of the ceremony and reception. Like you said, I would like the wedding recorded but don't need a beautifully edited video. I just want something to show my grandkids in 30 years.

Have you tried calling local colleges? We hired a local film school grad for ours. He's renting all the equipment, so we're basically only paying for that. He gets to use our video for promo purposes to start his business, we get a cheap price for edited film and raw footage... Everyone wins!

Mrsskitobe...our venue is in the same town as one of the big universities here in tx. FH and I had considered reaching out to hire someone the same way you did. How did you go about reaching out to them?

I didn't think I wanted one but I ended up hiring one last month. I didn't want to regret it and I've heard it's the biggest regret among brides if they didn't get one. If you find someone who is looking to build their portfolio it won't be as expensive, you just probably won't get the quality of a more experienced videographer but that doesn't matter to some people. Some people just want the video footage.

I've read that it's one of the biggest regrets when brides don't hire videographers. Pictures can only show so much. So altho we really didn't have the budget for it, we're getting one. We found them, Classic Photographers, and they were not too bad in terms of pricing. Since we're getting a pretty good deal on our photographer , it's worth the splurge for us.

I just hired one too and I am not regretting it. They are newer to the business and have very reasonable deals. I cut back in other places including in my personal life to be able to afford it. It is one thing I wanted to splurge on and I am!

We made cut backs in the planning and personal lives to make room in the budget, we also have photographers on the recommended list from our venue that include video(a separate person videotaping)

@futuremrshampton -check the school's web page for photography clubs or art or photography departments. They'll usually have some sort of contact information on there, or maybe even a social media account you can message or post on to see if there are any interested students!

I always forget about looking into college students. Good idea! Also, an acquaintance of mine just did a GoPro video and it was so fun.. Good ideas everyone

Thanks for the tip, Heather! Since some of his family lives overseas, they may not make it, and we'd like for them to get to see the ceremony, but videographers are so expensive!

We decided not to hire a videographer and we're just having his uncle record it.

We've gone back and forth on this topic and I'm still on the fence. So many couples tell me they've never watch it

My friend's daughter is going to school for videography. I asked her if she wanted to practice at my wedding. She is so excited. If she gets a good video then great. If not, we weren't hiring one anyways. Either way she'll get the practice she needs
