Not allowed to "attach" anything to walls or ceilings at reception site....

AlClaire, on November 20, 2019 at 6:48 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 11

Our rental agreement at our reception venue states - Free standing decorations only are allowed. Items may not be taped, stapled, or attached in any way to the ceiling, walls, floors or window areas.

How in the world can we decorate a reception without hanging or attaching anything?? Has anyone heard of this before? Is this doable??

That’s pretty standard. What kind of decorations were you planning? Usually if you want lighting or draping of any sort they’ll allow it if it’s a professional company installing it. That’s what we did.

I agree that this is very standard. Imagine how bad their walls would look if they did allow staples or tape. I would look at pictures of your venue decorated for any events for inspiration.

OH, okay. I didn't know that! I thought it was unusual. I will look through the posts to try to find inspiration. There have not been many weddings at my site and the few that were, don't have good pix of the site decorated, unfortunately.

Depending on the look you're going for I'd look into pipe and drape.

Are you decorating yourself or having someone else do it? Like someone else mentioned, my venue allows it to be attached if a professional company does it (I think because they have to carry special insurance).

My mil and sister are taking the lead on that, so not me personally, but definitely not hiring anyone. Pipe and drape sounds like something my sis could totally research and do. Thanks so much, all. I was really disappointed when I read that and now I feel like maybe there are workarounds!

My venue has this same policy. It's a challenge, for sure. I'm mainly focusing on the tables, since I can't do much else. So all of my guest tables will have beautiful decor (centerpieces), and I'll have a few other tables for guest book, card box, memorial table, where I can also place decor.

My venue coordinator has actually been showing me spots around the room that I can decorate without violating the policy, as she works there, and has dealt with hundreds of B&Gs who want to decorate the space. With our uplighting, and the tables set beautifully, it will be no big deal.

I'm actually going to save a lot of money on decor this way, so I can put it towards the food!!

I wouldn't know why you would decorate walls really anyway - but this is definitely a very standard and common thing.

I think it's pretty standard. OUrs has the same condition.

We will just decorate on tables (Centerpieces, candles, frames, etc).

My venue is the same so we will make sure to make the tables elaborate. I like simple and classy anyway so I think just decorating the tables will be enough.
