Noom

Mrs Sullivan, on November 6, 2018 at 12:53 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 14

There's a good portion of people out there that want to lose weight before their wedding day, myself being one of them. I live an extremely busy lifestyle (have an 8-5 job, train horses on the side, have my own horses and small farm, have a weekend morning job, and am a social media and production consultant for my friends company) and don't physically have the time or energy to go to a gym. I do my best to work out at home but let's be honest, when I have gotten less than 6 hours of sleep every night for weeks, I am not going to be waking up early to work out. So my big question here is, has anyone tried the weight loss app NOOM?

I haven't, but as far as the weight loss without time to exercise, I lost almost 10lbs in the last two months from just changing my diet and almost no exercise besides a flag football league once a week!

I’ve been working hard with diet and such. Changed my foods and such, and I already do intermittent fasting. But i can’t add in any more time for exercise. So it’s been rough. I’ve lost 10 pounds over the last 3 months but I’d like to lose another 25 ideally by my first dress fitting in April/May

Well so far so good for you! I know there are a ton at-home workouts that only take a few minutes at a time and you can easily do with minimal equipment, I'd maybe look into those. Pinterest has some good ones.

I also changed what and how much I ate and lost 10lb in 2 months. Then I read about someone who dropped several dress sizes in a few months just by drinking a gallon of water a day. So I decided to try it, though I’m not a fan of just water. But in about a week and a half I lost 5lbs. That surprised me. Just got to test things out and see what works for you.

I'm using Tone It Up and love it! It's super easy to do at home.

I tried a free trial several months ago and didn't like it because Android users weren't able to custom build recipes to figure out nutritional information. That was really the only problem I had with the program. I think it's great otherwise, but I only used it for 2 weeks.

I've been doing Weight Watchers and love it. I've lost 60 lbs in the past year.

I've used Noom in the past and it's okay, but it's not the greatest. I cut way down on carbs and how much I ate in general, I do intermittent fasting, and I drink at least 64oz of water/day, and I'm down 18 lbs since August. If you drink enough water, you won't find yourself with unnecessary hunger. Also getting enough sleep is huge, if your body isn't getting enough sleep, it will retain weight.

    Hope some of that helps!

I've been using Noom for 14 weeks. I'm down a little over 20lbs, with about 30 more to go just to be within my recommended BMI. Any who, I like the program. It's no nonsense. You put in the time, cut the calories and for the most part the weight comes off. I won't lie, you have to put the work in. But I enjoy the articles that they have you read daily, and this is the first time that I have enjoyed weight loss. I'm not excepted to give up my favorite foods, or spend hours on end at the gym. Honestly I workout 3 times a week for 30-40 mins. Everybody is different though, so do what works for you. 😊

My husband and I went Keto before the wedding and I lost 15 pounds in about 2 months and I didn't do any additional exercising. That being said, because you don't eat a single processed thing on Keto, everything is made from scratch, which is totally doable (I love making all our meals for the week on Sunday so I don't have to worry about a thing during the week), but it's time consuming. Honestly though, Keto has been amazing. Weight loss aside, I have more energy, I sleep better, I don't get nearly as many headaches, I'm never hungry and my stomach doesn't get upset at all anymore. And my acne (face and back)? Pretty much gone. Keto was the best decision I ever made. And you'll hear plenty of people saying it's too difficult to stick with it, but it really isn't. You have to find the right "Keto" for your body and it's easy.

My husband and I did Isagenix for 3 months before our wedding and we continue still (though more liberally now). It's a shake replacement system where you replace two meals with shakes (they actually taste good) and then eat two 100 calorie snacks throughout the day and then eat one "for and knife" meal a day (around 500-600 calories). I went from 155 to 132 and he went from 200+ to 172 in 3 months. I'm at the point of maintaining so I do one shake a day and don't follow the regimen are strictly and he is too. We cheat a lot more now than we did back then. If you're looking for fast and convenient, a system like this may be an option. We didn't work out at all and still lost the weight.

Yes it's an MLM and it costs money, but it's about $3.50/shake so $7 each day and you only need to supply snacks and dinner food. You'll significantly cut down your monthly food budget if you normally eat out a lot or eat luxury foods.

I would start by doing lots of research to understand what keto is and what it does to your body. I actually read this book, which was really helpful: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1524762237/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. The "diet" in this book helps you slowly transition into keto. My husband and I ended up going 100% into keto right away, but the book was still really helpful and it has recipes. When you do your research, you will learn about total carbs vs net carbs. Opinions are very divided about this, so just understand that you need to do what's right for you body. It may take some time to figure out exactly what macro amounts will work for your body, so be patient. And the weight will still come off right away, so long as your carb count is low enough. You will also learn about the keto flu while doing research. There are ways to combat these flu-like symptoms. I would also refrain from doing any really strenuous exercise the first couple weeks. I did that and I was completely fatigued during my workouts.

To find out the amount of macros you need, I would then download an app, like Carb Manager (I use it and like you). This app has a calculator that let's you add your info and goal weight and it will calculate the macros you need based on your goal. It also has tons and tons of food, so you can input what you eat every day to hold yourself accountable. It also has recipes and a meal planner.

KetoConnect is a great resource for info, recipes and how to shop for keto without spending an arm and a leg. They have a website, a blog and are on YouTube. Ruled.me and Perfect Keto are also great resources.

Sorry this response got so long! I hope it helps!
