Nontraditional Ring Bearer

Amber, on June 15, 2017 at 10:01 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11

My 13 yr old daughter has decided she wants to be the ring bearer. My 21 yr old son is going to be one of the groomsmen so of course I want to include my daughter in the ceremony. My thoughts are to have her wear the same dress as the bridesmaids and just walk out after them. Should she also have a bouquet like them? Whats a good way for her to carry the rings if I don't want to do that ring pillow and lastly does the ring bearer really carry and hold the rings during the ceremony?

That's so cute! Ring bearers don't normally carry the rings since there is the issue of getting lost or something which you do NOT want on your wedding day but some other options are that she could carry a sign or an empty box. We're having our ring bearer carry an empty box that we will use after the wedding if we ever take our rings off. This makes it look like they're carrying the rings, but actually not. Its up to you though! A 13 yr old is a lot more responsible than a 4 yr old

    I like the dress idea.

You can give her a small bouquet if she can balance that and the rings.

There are many alternatives to the pillow: boxes are popular.

Our priest asks for the rings at the beginning of the mass to bless them. You would ask your officiant this.

That sounds good to me. I think the BM usually holds the rings, in most weddings I've been to. But at her age if you trust her enough and want her to hold them that's fine. Maybe you could put them in a ring box and give her a small clutch to carry the ring box in.

Maybe put the rings on the bouquet that she's holding ..In a box? Idk sorry. But I'm having an in traditional flower girl. One of my old dance friends is going to do a slow, beautiful lyrical/ contemporary dance to a specific son while holding a basket of petals and spreading them down the aisle. Either way, non tradition is becoming the new traditional on some ways

Tie the rings to bouquet stems with ribbon.

Powers2, I thought about tying the rings to the bouquet but then id be nervous that they would be too tied and not come off easily making it awkward during the ceremony. I'm probably over thinking it

I think a box would work, she's old enough to handle the rings too, so that shouldn't be a problem.

I think a bouquet might be a little too much to handle with the rings too...but maybe one that goes on the wrist?

We had a girl RB, too. Ours was 4 years old, though, so she wore the same dress as our FG. She carried a heart shaped wood box we got off Etsy that, when unlatched, twisted open and had two spots for the rings. She ended up carrying an empty box, though, and was unable to twist open the top to figure that out.

We ordered child size corsages for our FG and RB so they would have flowers all night, too.

She could carry the rings and her bouquet could be a pommander. They're usually on ribbons so it could be looped around her wrists leaving her hands free

That is adorable. I love the idea of a small bouquet with the ring tied on it.

Since she volunteered, I think that's a great idea, OP!
