Non-white Flower Girl Dresses

Caitlin, on March 14, 2022 at 11:32 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 3 5

So I don't know why but I do not like the look of a white flower girl dress. I think it's cause it is little kids wearing the dresses (my flower girls will be 2, 6, and 9) and white can look dirty quicker than others. Also I noticed I think some flower girl dresses are mini wedding dresses of what the bride is wearing (I'm not sure if that was on purpose but just something I've picked up on). I want the kids to be well kids.

So I thought about doing colored flower girl dresses. JJHouse has some AWESOME ones that I really like. So I was thinking maybe making the flower girl dresses my wedding colors! Great idea! Smiley laugh Except they don't have any I really like in my wedding colors (slate blue, light blue, dark green, and tree branch brown). (Think of a summer blossom with a blue flower and its little leaves, that is our colors). So any help would be appreciated on figuring out what strategy to go for. Or should I just pick a dress and say "pick your favorite color!". I don't hate that idea but I don't love it.

Also (slightly related) since there is such an age gap among my cousins, should I have the 6 year old and 2 year old one dress and the 9 year old another? 2 and 9 year old one color and 6 year old another? (2 and 9 year old are sisters). Just the 2 year old one dress and the 6 and 9 year old another?

I'm sorry I have lots of questions. Haha. Non-related ones are now popping up such as, is 9 too old to be a ring bear. (I have too many cousins and trying not to play favorites, this is fun lol).

Look for holiday dresses. They’re half the price too. Ross/Burlington/Marshall’s has a good selection. Costco before Christmas and Easter. Any local department store. Also look online:

    Amazon.comLightinthebox.com
JJ’s House has a reputation on the forum of being hit or miss, mostly the price is too good to be true and seamstresses will not touch their dresses for alterations, since it is based in and ships from China.

Many consider 9-11 to be the cut off ages range for ring bearers and flower girls. With a starting age of 3 because anything younger requires extra supervision. Do what works for you.

I literally knew you would comment. Haha. I really appreciate the advice and the links though. Smiley heart

Yeah my 9 year old flower girl I wanted her originally as a junior bridesmaid (we are actually super close despite a 15 year age gap) but we did not have a jr groomsmen. I know you can still have a jr bridesmaid without a jr groomsmen but that isn't even and that would really bug my fiance and I lol.

I can totally understand not. wanting them in white!! Kids don't care about what they're wearing the way we do. Case in point: my niece at my brother in laws wedding was laying on the floor of the hotel with her legs in the air for a full hour before the wedding. She's five.

Both she and another niece of mine will be the flower girls at my wedding, so I've been on the hunt as well for ones that will look nice with my dress and that I know they'll have fun wearing since they're such girly girls. I ran across HerMajestyFlowerGirl on Etsy. I LOVE THEM ALL AND HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!! Super fun, different color choices other than white, and reasonably priced

I was flower girl for my cousin and his wife and wore a pink dress (big, puffy . . . it was the 80s, what can I say). I *LOVED* that sucker (wore it around - grocery store, etc. whenever my mom let me). Pink was part of the color "family" but wasn't the BMs color at all - could you do something like that? (So maybe a shade of a color your BMs dresses?)

I would let the older girls pick their own dresses - they'll be happier in something they picked and have the littlests' mom/dad pick her dress - again, comfort/happiness - some kids are weird about tags/seams/etc. and it's not necessarily something you'd know unless you were the one dressing them on the regular.

We had the 9 year old in our wedding as a jr GM - it made him feel very adult (we also had him escort his grandma and my mom down the aisle as part of the processional). You could even cut down to 2 flower girls and have a 9 year old jr BM?
