Non-Traditional Wedding Reception Food

BreeCheez, on July 29, 2014 at 8:51 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11

I have been trying to decide on a wedding reception menu. I've looked at a full meal, buffet, appetizers only, cake & Punch, and come up with an idea I like, but am looking for some feedback. I want to have a full buffet of Italian appetizer sized foods or MINI food, like mini pizzas (real Italian style not pep & Cheese), mini lasagna's, meatballs on a skewer, some kind of individual bruchetta's, skewered caprese salad, and I still need some more ideas, but I've run it by fiance. He loves the idea, as he loves Italian food (& i come form an Italian family). I really do no want a buffet of random food, and i do not want to have a plated dinner, but I keep hearing online feedback about do not do appetizers only! I dont mind putting on the invitations, a little blurb about not having a full meal (even thought I feel a meal of mini foods is just the same as a full meal). We plan on having plenty plenty for everyone to eat, & it's not a cost thing either, i just have my heart set on it.

You can do hors d'oeuvres only. You just have to be prepared to do a lot of them. People will eat a lot more when it is little bites. You can do everything you mentioned. Think about skewered sausage and peppers too. You can do mini pizzas, Chicago or NY style. Arancini is one of my favorites. Mini calzones, fried ravioli and a big antipasti display would be good.

Oh and I forgot about stuffed foods. You can do chicken rolls ups, maybe stuff them with prosciutto and fontina, then they get sliced to hors d'oeuves sized pieces. Stuffed mushrooms, you can choose from 1,000 different things to fill them with. Stuffed olives, again, you can get them stuffed with tons of different things.

I love your idea! I'm a sampler; I would much rather try several different things than eat one meal. MMmmmm, I love some stuffed mushrooms. Crab stuffed are my favorite. Perhaps tortellini, toasted ravioli, and pesto anything. YUM.

Doing small bites can be really fun. You can get really creative. Do an Italian wedding soup shooter, but have the meatball on a skewer in each one. You can do stuffed pastas. There are so many things you can think of doing.

I love it but I would add an antipasta salad as well.

Have lots of different options, and a lot of each option.

Or you could do a buffet, and include Italian dishes such as: chicken parm, penne a la vodka, eggplant parm for the vegetarians, along with a huge Italian/Casear/Caprese salad. Lots of bread. Your app's during cocktail hour could be meatballs, stuff mushrooms, bruschetta, etc.

You can do an all Italian menu even if you don't do just app's.

I usually wish I could just eat apps for a meal, so to have that be okay sounds awesome. Just yes, do make sure to have tons, because people will eat so much...
