Non Traditional Wedding Food

Has anyone had a wedding or been to a wedding with non traditional food for the dinner? If so, what did you think about it? My FH and I have never liked traditional foods like steak, chicken, seafood, etc. We were thinking about going with tacos (our favorite food) and other sides.

I love all the options! And the food “fitting” with our wedding has been a concern of mine. It’s definitely not a black tie wedding but nicer than a small backyard gathering. But I also want something I will enjoy and feels like us

Are you having multiple “main” options for guests to pick from as well as toppings? What are you doing for sides?

We're having chicken, beef, beans, rice, and all of the toppings you could think of. Soft and hard shells. Also doing chips, salsa, and queso.

Thank you so much for the recommendation. We are going through a catering company that has several options. It’s reassuring to hear you have seen it be a hit!

That totally makes sense! I just want something I’m excited for and traditional wedding food just isn’t it.

So they were more themed flavored tacos? We have a place like that near us but they don’t cater and I thought it would be hard to please everyone that way.

That sounds similar to what we are doing! I just want to make sure it’s enough food for everyone.

No, not themed. So fancier. We didn’t have the restaurant cater. We have our caterer recreate our favorites. We had no issues with any of our guests not being satisfied with their food.

The majority of weddings we have attended have not served any full meals. Just desserts or appetizers. One that stands out as being the best ever and the first full meal at a wedding I have attended in either of our families/circles was a buffet at a community center owned by the parks department not far from where the couple lived. They had a favorite Hawaiian/Americanized Chinese restaurant in town fix up a full menu of appetizers, main dishes, and sides. All in chafing dishes over burners or over ice as appropriate. People went up for 2nds and they still had plenty to send home full plates with guests.

The menu was spring rolls, coconut shrimp, fruit platter, teriyaki chicken, Mongolian beef, mac salad, fried rice, Hawaiian rolls and I feel like I’m forgetting something else.
Everyone in my family since then compares all weddings to that menu.

Our dinner was the chicken, beef and fish. Then our cocktail hour had a whole bunch of foods.

So if you want to do tacos go for it. 😊

I would go after a taco bar at a wedding like it was my JOB. I love non traditional wedding food! We had a lunch reception and served pulled pork sandwiches, mac and cheese, salad and cut fruit and veggies. (It was fall.)

    Best wishes!
