Non-Traditional Father/Daughter Dance

Rachel, on June 19, 2010 at 8:02 PM Posted in Planning 0 4

I'm trying to come up with a father daughter dance that isn't overly sentimental. My step-dad is walking me down the isle as my father passed away when i was little. He's been a huge part of my life...he and my mom started dating when I was 3. The other issue is that my mom and step-dad have recently divorced (2 years ago...and she is now re-married). So I don't want something that'll make my mom feel bad (if that makes sense). This may be waaayy too much info but I appreciate all the input I can get. Oh yeah...Bob Seger is a band I really associate with my step-dad.

If you're step-dad has pretty much played the role of your dad since you were 3, it should be OK for you to dance with him with it being sentimental or not. Your mom shouldn't be offended in any way since she knows that he is "Dad" to you even though you to know your Dad & cherish his memory. I don't know any music off the top of my head by Bob Seger. But I am sure there is a song that would mean the most to you.

I would start with what type of music you like...do you prefer classics, country, r&b, pop? I don't know your answer but here are two that always work:

How Sweet It Is To Be Loved by You

    What A Wonderful World

    Good Luck!

Thanks guys! I appreciate the input. I really like country but old rock would be great. We'll probably play lots of jason mraz, colbie coillat, jack johnson, ect during the cocktail hour with the standard upbeat music for dancing with a smattering of slower songs. Our first dance will be to "Better Together" by Jack Johnson. I'm thinking that my back-up "father"/daughter dance wil be "you've got a friend in me"...the toy story version Smiley smile if I can't come up with something better.

So...what is a father/daughter dance called if he's not my father??
