Non traditional father daughter dance

Brittany, on July 4, 2020 at 10:59 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 12
So I have decided on doing a father daughter dance with my best friends dad. He has been there for me for years! What I’m stuck on is a song, I don’t want a traditional father daughter dance song(like I loved her first). I feel like it doesn’t fit the situation. Does anyone have any song suggestions? I will gladly listen to any and all!

Does he have a favorite song? Maybe something like "What A Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong or "Forever Young" by Rod Stewart or "Wind Beneath My Wings" by Bette Midler.

He actually doesn’t have a favorite. He also hates dancing 🤣 he’s made it his entire life not having to dance for anything but he said my wedding is worth it💖
I will definitely check those out though! Thank you 😊

I met my dad when I was 17, so I’ve felt awkward about the whole father daughter dance tradition too. Since He’s helping pay for the reception, I planned to do a short dance to Tom Petty’s “Wildflowers,” but we’re not allowed because of Covid restrictions 🤷‍♀️.

Wow! So, is no one allowed to dance? Our venue isn’t really doing anything about covid, they’re leaving it up to the bride and groom

No mingling or dancing, health department guidelines. They are going to look the other way while FH and I do a short first dance. It’s fine for our plan because we’re having a sunrise ceremony, breakfast reception, then inviting everyone who wants to go to join us at the adventure park and Oktoberfest (unless it gets cancelled- for now the official statement is that they are reimagining how to make it work.)

Seems crazy that they would allow a gathering in the first place if no one is allowed to even talk to each other across the table, never mind dancing which can be and often is easily done without being packed like sardines. But better safe than sorry.

Bruno Mars - Count on me : https://youtu.be/Yc6T9iY9SOU *** (That's what friends are suppose to be there for you**you can count me because I can count on you*) Part of the lyrics and if he doesn't like dancing this song is very catchy and fun to goof around with and enjoy a nice laugh and smile

Bruce Springsteen - When You Need Me : https://youtu.be/WY2-hUoq3iQ

I have no song suggestions. But dancing with your BFF’s father is very sweet. I feel like something semi-upbeat (and not slow and sad) is most fitting.

These are slow songs, but might still be fitting: “You’ve Got A Friend” by James Taylor. “I hope you dance” by Lee Ann Womack. “When You Need Me” by Bruce Springsteen.

That's such a sweet idea! I'm not a huge fan of some of the traditional father-daughter dance songs, so we're going with an older classic instead, "L-O-V-E" by Nat King Cole. Something like that might work for a dance with a parental figure who isn't technically the bride's parent too.
