Non traditional father-daughter dance

Savanah, on September 22, 2016 at 9:10 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 16

So I previously told everyone that both of my parents have passed in the last couple of years and that I would be asking my uncle to walk me down the aisle. With that being said I would still love to do the father daughter dance but clearly the traditional songs won't work.. I need song ideas for us, and yes I would still like a slow dance. My friends recommend "you should be here" by Cole Swindell but I'm not so sure since it tugs on my heart strings.

I have no ideas for you, but I'm wondering the same thing. My uncle is walking me down the aisle and my brother and I are going to do the dance together. Hopefully someone has some good suggestions for you!

I'm still looking for a song for FH and his sister to dance to as both his parents have also passed away. It has possibly been the most difficult thing I have dealt with as they both have no clue. Also when I give suggestions it's like ehhh I don't know from both of them. Good luck though hope someone has suggestions.

Haha walking in their shoes I think it's hard! Like you want something meaningful but not something that will make you ball lol.

I tried YouTube and just typing it on google and have gone through a billion songs with FH . I'm all out of ideas honestly. I had a thread on here about it lol all the songs were shot down. It's definitely not an easy task. Granted FH is the picky one and of course he should be so I just continue to try and look.

Lol no there is hope unless your my FH. Ha FH is insanely picky. He liked one song so far but it was too repetitive or he hated the artist. There are so many songs that are beautiful some tear jerkers some not so much.

I have a similar issue. My older brother is walking me and we're sharing a dance. I'm leaning towards "There you'll be" by Faith Hill

What about a song that your dad liked, instead of the song being about your loss?

When I danced with my father at my first wedding, we danced to a song that was meaningful to both of us, but was a song that Dad liked and listened to all the time. That's what made it meaningful to me, that the song always reminded me of him (and still does). It may have even been a love song... but it was by Kenny G.

When I was married this time my son walked me down the aisle as my Dad passed back in 04. He and I were going to dance to "You are my Sunshine" which is one of my pet names for him. HIs favorite singer is Johnny Cash, so we were going to dance to his version of the song.

All that said, I would suggest dancing to a song that is meaningful to both you and your Uncle, and maybe something that makes you both think of your Dad. Maybe something that your Dad liked when he was younger that your Uncle would remember?

My dad and I are dancing to How Sweet It Is by James Taylor, none of the lyrics say anything about dad/daughter/father, etc. That song works for everything!

@Spazzy gave you some great suggestions as well! All those types of songs (You've Got A Friend In Me, Count On Me - Bruno Mars, I'll Be There, Lean on Me, I'll Be There For You) work really well for any non-traditional dance!
