Non-Traditional Cake Flavors/Desserts

FutureMrsBeeson, on December 15, 2017 at 1:58 PM Posted in Planning 0 27

My venue requires us to use their in-house caterer, which I am ok with because they are farm-to-table, source local ingredients, and make custom menus based on each couple's tastes. The only bummer is that we don't get to go cake tasting! That said, the baker told us she could make anything we can imagine, which is really cool.

What are your favorite non-traditional wedding cake flavors and/or desserts? I'm currently obsessed with churros and would love to have at least one tier be a churro cake. Another dessert option is to have fresh baked chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwiches. Yummmmm.

I've had lemon cake, black forest, carrot cake, sambuca soaked cake, canoli, Portuguese tarts, baklava, and other assorted cookies at weddings before.

I love Cinnamon toast! I wonder if that will taste similar to a churro cake?

I love lemon, cake, too, but I really want sometime that will surprise our guests. I feel like strawberry, chocolate, lemon are all expected flavors.

We are doing a dessert bar with coconut macaroons, brownies, some type of fruit tart (or bar) and one other (yet to be decided) option. We are doing a small cake for cutting/picture purposes. I had a cake with whipped peanut butter filling at a wedding once and it was awesome. The only wedding I've been to where people went back for seconds on cake haha.

Yay! We really don't like normal cake icing (yes even good icing) we wanted something fun and we did coffee cake and everyone loved it! Our baker got so much business after our wedding! We are actually having some of her coffee cake on Christmas morning because my grammy loves it!

Later we did donut holes for a late night snack which was so awesome!

Mine was 2 tiers of Kahlua choc chip w/raspberry filling and a tier with 1 layer of spiced rum, 1 layer of almond with pineapple filling. I wasn't sure if my guests would like the latter, but they obliterated it!

Our wedding cake will be frangelico infused! It's a hazelnut liquor. So good.

DH and I had a root beer float cake. We had hot cocoa, apple pie, carrot cake, almond and orange cranberry cupcakes as well. I was going for fall flavors and DH picked root beer. Honestly, it was the best out of all the flavors.

If you're a fan of fillings/custard, you could do a doberge cake. It's a really popular type of cake in New Orleans that has like 7 or 8 different thin layers of custard and cake, you can do all kinds of flavors as well. Sooo good.

Lucky! I have to make a tier a boring white, even if it's a small one. I have family allergic to cinnamon, nuts and strawberry.

Unfortunately I am allergic to pumpkins (weird allergy, I know). I can't do pumpkin spice anything...

We're having Cassata cake--yellow cake with cannoli filling and really light whipped cream frosting. Churro cake sounds amazing!

The hardest part will be pleasing FH. He only like panucci frosting, which is delicious, but doesn't belong on a wedding cake IMO. This is part of the reason why I wish we could do taste testing. My FH has the palette of a 5 year old haha

Ours is going to be 1/3 chocolate cake with whipped peanut butter filling (omg so good), 1/3 plain white with buttercream for those who want plain, and 1/3 snickerdoodle! It's sooooo good. It takes like gooey cinnabon. FH and I were obsessed. We can't wait to have the cake!

Snickerdoodle! That's my kind of cake. Think it will be too similar to Churro?
