Hello, ladies!

My FH and I are doing our ceremony and reception ULTRA budget style...we've been fortunate thus far to have most everything work within budget and coinciding with our vision. I AM looking for insight/advice/etc.

1. Our venue is an automobile museum. Complete with cars, bicycles, and other memorabilia ranging from 1910 to 1985. I know that decor is a huge deal for a lot of women, but do I really need much more than centerpieces when hosting in a museum? *Detail...we will have a couple of docents during our reception

2. Is it tacky to have an I-Pod with music pumped through the facility?

3. We're planning to do a catered taco bar because A. Who the eff doesn't like tacos and B. It's possibly the most inexpensive food option... My question is what kind of supplemental food items should we supply? It'll be carnitas and carne asada with corn and flour tortillas available (for those with food allergies). Should we do a "garden veggie" station as well? Help!

I don't actually have an iPod (I'm possibly the only person in America who can say this lol) but we're planning to Spotify our music. There are many, many existing wedding playlist out there. I downloaded several and combined them, removing the songs I didn't want. It's not as good as a dj for sure, but with a small wedding, small venue, and small budget it made the most sense for us. I agree with the previous poster about making sure there's a sound system!

No that's a great idea. I looked at a mining museum and a train museum.

Ipod is fine if you're willing to set the play lists up.

Tacos are great. Just make sure alcohol.

Yay tacos!! We had tacos at our wedding too. (Carne asada, sous vide chicken seared on the grill, and vegan)

We also did an iPod and speaker, and it wasn't a big deal at all. The most time consuming part is putting together the playlists. DH and I did our own announcements for the toasts and the Father Daughter dance. Our officiant announced everything else.

Sounds like you guys have the right idea, and I LOVE your musical selection. (Check out The Delta Bombers "Smoke Stack Lightning." They're a local group here in Vegas, and friends of mine.) Smiley laugh

    1) the museum sounds awesome, I think centerpieces and nice linens are totally sufficient. 2) we went for a dj because of how much work it would be to put together 4 hrs of playlists, and because a good dj can read the crowd and get people dancing. 3) tacos are awesome! Def include fajita veggies, guac, and vegetarian refried beans. Rice and beans are really filling. Also a salsa bar could be a fun addition. A salad with a yummy lime vinaigrette and veggies like jicama could keep it texmex themed. It sounded a little bit like you're planning to do the food yourself, which I would be wary of because of my allergies, and because it is a TON of work.

    This sounds awesome.

If you're looking for your typical party atmosphere with dancing, etc then I'd have a DJ. A friend of mine just piped in music and no one danced.

Tacos sound wonderful! I'd think about adding rice and beans, and definitely keeping the portobellos!

Can I come? lol. I love it all. I wouldn't go with an ipod, mostly because I dont want the hassle of the entire thing but if you don't care about that, and dont mind people having to mess with the music then go for it. We are having a vintage wedding at a barn and went with a taco bar. The owners serve the 2 meats and rice and beans, and then hand over the plates for the guests to add all the extra stuff. The only other stuff to eat will be cupcakes and popcorn from the popcorn bar. Oh and I dont think you need any decorations!

Our friends had a smaller wedding and did a playlist that they hooked up to the sound system. I think it was even on Spotify premium! It wasn't really a dance-y kind of crowd so reading the energy of the dance floor wasn't something that they needed to worry about. Everyone seemed to have a really good time listening to some cool tunes while sipping cocktails. There was lots of energy in the room and everyone was mingling, laughing, and playing with the DIY photobooth. I think you can definitely get by on minimal decorations given your venue. I would be down with a taco bar - just make sure you've covered all dietary restrictions on your guest list. If you are unsure of what you will need to account for you could even have a line on your RSVPs for dietary restrictions.
