Non-slow First Dance Song?

Doxie Mom, on August 20, 2020 at 4:35 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 14

My fiance and I's song is "A Woman Like You" by Lee Brice. If you listen to it its more upbeat (but still romantic i believe) but may be hard to slow-ish dance to. Its the only song we really feel attracted to (as we have been togetehr 8 years and its always been "ours")

did anyone else dance to a non slow song? did you dance any different? what song? how did it go?

thanks in advance ladies Smiley smile

dont know what i would do without this group

Can you practice dancing to the song and see what you're comfortable with?

Many couples pick upbeat songs and not everyone takes dance lessons either, just going with the flow of the moment.

I love this song! I think you could do the traditional swaying but a little faster, maybe with some twirls in there.

My fiance and I are swing dancers and he has his heart set on Why Don't We Just Dance by Josh Turner.

I think it is still slow enough to sway, maybe just sway a little faster. Great song choice!

Also this is off topic, but I noticed you username is Doxie mom. Does that mean you have a dachshund? And will you be including him/her in the wedding?? That would be so cute!

That will be so cute! I have to 20 pound mutts that are way to playful to attend so I made life size cardboard cut outs of them.

We haven't had our wedding yet (May 2021, fingers crossed!), but our song is also an upbeat song. Since the day my FH first got together, we've had "Shotgun Rider" by Tim McGraw as our song. It just fits us perfectly! So, when we started wedding planning, we were looking at slow songs, and they were good. But then it occurred to us, why don't we pick "our" song? We talked about it, and decided it would be a lot of fun. We both love to dance, but neither of us has much training in formal dance steps, so we're going to take some lessons (if Covid-19 ever goes away), so we can look good out there during our first dance. We had just booked some lessons last March when Covid hit, and had to cancel them, and ultimately we postponed our wedding. But we're hoping next Spring will be a whole new deal, and we'll be able to get our dance lessons and boogie to our upbeat fun love song!!

    ...Pet tax!

You can't go talking about a little Diva Doxie and NOT PUT A PICTURE IN YOUR POST.

As for your dance - it's *your* dance! Do whatever you want! My dad and I had a more upbeat song, so our DJ edited it to start slow, and then my dad could twirl me into the upbeat part.

Practice a little, relax, and remember that everyone is going to think it's adorable.

Are there any other versions of it that are slower? We really wanted to use "Here Tonight" by Brett Young, but we also thought it was a little fast for a first dance song. I was able to find "Here Tonight (The Acoustic Sessions)" by Brett Young and Charles Kelly (from Lady A) and it worked perfectly!!!!!! I say all this to say, look around and see what other versions you can find of you song! Lee Brice may have done an acoustic or live version that is slower and first dance "appropriate" (for lack of a better word).

I totally think you could slow dance to that song, maybe just a little faster! I love that song. My future sister-in-law did Empire State of Mind by Jay Z and Alicia Keys because they met in New York City. She had a slower version of it so they could slow dance to it, it was very different.
