Non covid Related - fh family can’t make the wedding...

Sierra, on March 27, 2020 at 10:32 PM Posted in Planning 0 4
Hi friends,
So my FH’s family lives in a different country, a very poor country and there is a very real chance that they won’t be able to make the wedding due to inability to get visas/passports etc and he is pretty upset about it. And there is no way my family could afford to travel over to do a wedding there. I feel as though if both our families can’t be there, then I don’t even want to have a wedding, that the only fair thing to do would be to elope? (Which Im not opposed to, we’ve considered it before the family stuff was an issue. I just would be sad to miss out on the wedding I’ve been dreaming of since I was a little girl ya know) Thoughts??

Is it possible to elope and then maybe hold 2 “receptions”/vow renewal parties, one in each location?

I agree. Elope if you have to, to keep your date have a reception here with your family when you can. Then travel overseas for a reception there in his familys country maybe make it into your honeymoon too?

Why not have 2 weddings? If possible your parents could go with you and meet the in laws. Depending on the traditions of his country, you could celebrate them there making the event even more special.

Why not have two ceremonies one for each family. Or could you elope and use whatever money you were going to use for the wedding to get both of your parents together for the elopement. Just a small intimate dinner with both sets of parents.
