Non-alcoholic drinks?

Michele, on February 6, 2018 at 12:08 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 21

Hey friends!

I think we are good on booze... we have 2 beer selections, 2 wine selections, and 2 signature cocktails! Our caterer provides water, lemonade, and iced tea. Do I also need to provide soda? If so, how many varieties? Would diet coke and sprite be sufficient? Or do I need more?

Thanks in advance!

You should definitely provide soda. I would include regular coke, diet, sprite, and maybe root beer.

Double check with your caterer that they’re not providing soft drinks, but if they’re not— yes provide soda and yes prove more options. I’d say at minimum, both diet AND regular coke, sprite, ginger ale, and seltzer water. Or just at the very least add regular coke too.

What I have done is provided a poll for my guests to see what they prefer to drink and then gone from there..... I know for ours we are also having a sparkling grape juice option for the toasts for the people who don't drink

We are not having alcohol at all at our wedding, and we are serving tea, punch, sparkling grape juice, coffee, and water.

You definitely need soda as well.

@OP I agree with PP's about the variety of sodas.

At the very least, Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite, Club Soda.

Good additions, Diet Sprite, Ginger ale, Root Beer. If any kids are attending, then accouterments for Shirley Temples or something like that.

Most caterers provide soda, so ask first. If not, I would provide it. It might also be nice to have a sparkling grape juice or cider too for toasting.

No one in my family drinks soda, nor does my fiancé. We hate it. We will be having water, tea, and lemonade for the kids. And alchohol. But no soda.

If you like soda, or your FH, and will want it at your wedding, then go ahead. But IMO and what is working for us is no soda. If they can’t drink the above options for 4-6 hours and skip there soda then they have an addiction 😂 I’ve actually never been to a wedding that has had soda before... and I’ve been to a lot of weddings! (And worked a lot of them too!)

Yes, soda would need to be provided. Coke, Sprite, Ginger Ale, and a Diet brand as well.

So at the weddings you’ve attended and worked, no one mixes liquor with soda? It’s not about whether someone can go 4-6 hours without a soda. It’s that some people prefer soda to the other things you listed. Would I drink iced tea? Sure, but id rather have a coke.

Not everyone likes diet soda, so I think you'd need coke, diet coke, sprite, and seltzer/club soda.

I also don't believe anyone who says they've never been to a wedding without soda. What are cocktails mixed with? Oh right. Soda.

FI doesn't drink tea or lemonade. If he's not drinking alcohol, he's drinking regular Coke. He only drinks water at work during the summer months.

Also, I hope you are mixing the alcohol provided with something, like soda, so people aren't drinking straight alcohol.

I hate soda too, but we're still having it at our wedding. Are you offering any mixed drinks? If so, you need soda for that. Soda is a weird thing to not accommodate.

Definitely check with caterer to make sure they aren't actually providing soda. I would think most would.

But I think at minimum, include coke, diet coke, Sprite, Dr. Pepper, seltzer, and maybe a ginger ale too. Especially include sodas that can be used as mixers for your bar.

I don't think you need to provide soda. Lemonade, Ice tea and water seems like plenty of selection to me. I seem to be in the minority, but I think that people can live with out soda, even if its their preferred drink, just have water.

That being said, I think if you do go with adding sodas, make sure you have diet & not diet varieties. People get weird and picky about that sort of thing.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone be shamed for wanting a soda during a wedding before

Just echoing other people, have the soda. Coke and diet, sprite, ginger ale and seltzer.
