NOLA Hotel Blocks + AirBnB

Ashli, on May 10, 2017 at 11:38 AM Posted in Planning 0 9

Hey everyone!

So I'm in a bit of a dilemma and in need of some advice, please. Our wedding will be in New Orleans and it just so happens to fall on the weekend of French Quarter Fest. Our venue is in a super cute neighborhood about a 10 min cab ride from the quarter; the neighborhood has its share of 2-3 bedroom cottages and bungalows that be (ideally) perfect to have OOT guests rent for the weekend. This would likely end up being a good bit cheaper than renting a hotel room in the quarter, and family/guests could shack up together in groups, if they wanted. The thought (in a perfect world!) was to look for a few houses nearby > figure a per person cost for the weekend > contact groups of family and/or friends who will be attending and ask if they would like to rent the space for $x. On the flip side, FH and I want to still arrange hotel blocks for those guests who prefer to stay IN the quarter and in the mix of the festival. The problem is so many hotels are not

Accepting blocks for the entire month of April. (It's festival season in New Orleans for pretty much all of Spring and Summer is just TOO HOT.). I've started using Skipper to research hotel blocks and sure enough, one of the 4 hotels I've looked into said they cannot accommodate. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to go about this? I want to give our guests the option to stay where they want-near the venue and smaller, funky shops/bars/restaurants-or near the hustle and bustle of the quarter. I haven't really looked into hotels close to the airport (most guests will be flying in for the weekend), mainly because it's not really within close proximity to fun activities. Granted, pretty much everything is accessible via cab but I don't want to push people into spending even more money on cab fares just to go out and do things.

    Help!

When my cousin got married in another state my entire family rented an airbnb or homeaway house. We picked it ourselves and paid for it. I would just be sure to inform your guests by word of mouth of the other event and let them decide between the hotel and booking their own airbnbs.

Also, try the hotel block tool on WW. It was helpful for us Smiley smile

Honestly i live 2 hrs away and that is the worst time in regards to booking anything in new Orleans . Like they'd need to book sooner than most people would for an out of town wedding. We book our rooms for jazz fest more than 6 months out because everything rents out and prices skyrocket

That makes sense, @KDoubleU--to let them book their own AirBnB or rental. We just finalized our date late last week and mailed the deposit check to the venue on Monday. So we need to get the ball rolling on getting STDs out and creating a wedding website with all of these details.

    And so it begins!

My friend got married in NOLA in October. They had hotel blocks listed on their website but also suggested airbnb. We actually went with an airbnb. It was our first time using it, and it was an awesome experience.

I would still try to reach out to some hotels to see what you can get. It's nice to have some options for your guests.

I am getting married in the middle of no where in Central FL. The closest hotel is 19 minutes away, but there are vacation homes 2 minutes away. February in FL is peak snowbird season so the vacation homes book quickly. I put a link on my website and sent out save the dates early last month with the website on them. I also told my mom, dad, FFIL and FMIL to tell their families if they might be interested. I left it at that. I want no part in hunting people down and making sure they booked their AirBnB on time.

ETA: I still got a hotel block at the 19 minute drive hotel for those who will be unable to get a house

@Jennifer V-I agree, the months of Feb-May are always challenging when it comes to booking resos. I was hopeful that if we started 11 months out it would help with availability.

Would it be weird to start a wedding website before we get STDs out? We have to get our engagement pics taken asap, but if it's at all possible to start the wedding website and get the details out there so everyone has the info they need to start their research, that may be beneficial. Or, should we just wait until we can get the e-pics taken and hit the ground running on the STDs? Understandably, STDs don't have to have pics on them (hence the "FREE DRINKS" coaster STD from WPD).
