No theme!!

Bianca, on November 28, 2016 at 9:35 AM Posted in Planning 0 25

My fiance and I have been engaged for about a month. We have decided the date to be October 22, 2017. We are getting married at the aquarium. But we have no theme. I feel like without a theme we are kind of all over the place with planning and decorations. Our colors are burnt orange and cobalt blue. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

We're not having a theme. We picked our colors and things we liked and kind of did our decorations from there. It is a little all over the place, but so are we. We are super happy with what we have!

My theme was "getting married" and "wedding". This isn't a birthday party, you don't need a theme. Just Google weddings with your colors for ideas.

I don't think you need a theme at all. Just have your colors and go with that. Especially in an aquarium it can get too theme-y and look like an eight year olds bday party. I say go for a particular style. Like modern or vintage if you want and expand from there.

We kinda had a theme but it was making me crazy and I was trying to make everything go with the theme, therefore I was losing sight of what it was all about: getting married. So, I dialed it back and now there's no theme, per se, but we are incorporating little touches of the "theme" here and there and we are keeping it SIMPLE. I think in your case, the aquarium in and of itself will be so cool, you don't need to do anything else! Your colors sound great. You can do little things to keep it overall cohesive, but it doesn't have to have a theme.

I feel like pickings theme can spiral out of control and get gimmicky really quick. Spend some time on Pinterest and wedding photographer blogs for inspiration and decide how much you will be able to spend on decor and work backwards from there.

I agree with Baletica. You've chosen the aquarium for your wedding (fabulous!) and that will provide a lot of atmosphere, so no theme necessary. Just use your colors and decide on the rest of the decor. Personally, I think a little bling would be a beautiful counterpoint to the aquarium vibe. Maybe you could use it in the table decor.

I think the word "theme" can often be misinterpreted. I think you can easily create a feeling or certain type of atmosphere without it being a full on themed wedding.

I'm with GTTC.. I hear aquarium and I think maybe centerpieces with flowers in water, lots of candlelight and a little bling

Sounds like you have an idea of the direction you want to go with colors, so that right there means you won't be all over the place. Plus, you said it's at an aquarium. I think the aquarium will have a strong enough feel to it anyway! Themes aren't really needed.

The theme of your party is "wedding."

You can convey certain moods and aesthetics with color schemes, decor, and some novelty food items even, but ultimately, the theme of your wedding is your wedding.

I won't have a theme. I think you don't really need one, with just the colors you choose is fine. what you do need is to have a vision as how you imagine your wedding it can be elegant, simple, rustic, extravaganza etc..

I would use your venue and color choices as inspiration rather than having an outright theme. Maybe a tropical, ocean inspired wedding?

Personally I like a theme. Like ours is rustic with some vintage and then our colors are navy lavender and ivory. It just gives you kind of a direction on decor so you're not all over the place. It helps create the atmosphere. Basketball and paw patrol are kids birthday themes. Rustic, elegant, bling, vintage those are wedding themes.

Maybe replacing the word "theme" with "vibe" or "aesthetic" will help in how you think of things? For instance, I wouldn't say our wedding has a "theme", but as I'm searching for decor I have words like geometric, modern, and sophisticated going through my head. If the things I'm looking at don't fit that feeling or vibe of modern sophistication I'm trying to achieve, it gets nixed. When I think of the word theme I picture something like Princess Fairytale...i.e. Princess Castle cake, Princess printed tablecloths, etc.

@emma yes! That's what I was trying to say!

And @dij you've never been to a wedding where there were sequin tablecloths/runners, glitter, rhinestones everywhere?!? That's what I would consider a bling wedding.
