No spotlight entertainment at reception?

Jana, on July 31, 2020 at 2:50 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 12
Is anyone doing this? Still having a ton of fun but keeping the spotlight celebrity treatment to a bare minimum. Just a first dance, nothing choreographed, no spotlight dances for others, no introductions (all the same guests at the same venue), no speeches. Just mingling, eating and dancing.

I did that! We had speeches though but it was short overall.

That's what we're doing. Keeping it simple and giving us more time to actually spend with our guests

Yes!! To be honest, those are the things I hate most about weddings. It all feels so contrived. We are not doing bridal party introductions (this is not a sporting event lol), speeches, first stance, spotlight dances, nothing choreographed. Just ceremony, cocktail hour while we do our pictures, then right into dinner.

I'm looking to do something similar for my wedding! I'm fairly shy, so I don't like having the spotlight on me. Looking to limit anything where the spotlight is on me, just looking to make sure everyone enjoys the day.

Did your dj still announce your first dance and cake cutting or just play music since there's not much of anything left to announce after the spotlight stuff is taken out?

I’m actually wondering this too. We just want to have cocktail hour and dinner. First dance but then nothing else. I don’t know what the dj is got at that point. Just playing music? Would a live band be better- our wedding is small (20 people) and they’re not really dancers... but I don’t want the room silent...

For our crowd, halfdancers and half not, a dj would a be better because they play music by the original artists. Non dancers are more than happy to mingle so I wouldn't worry about people not enjoying themselves.

Board and card games are an option too if people hate chatting.

We aren’t doing a father/daughter dance, mother/son dance, grand entrance, cake cutting, bouquet toss, etc. We are have three short toasts during dinner, though.

This is what I want at this point. Just a great meal and family getting together. So many restrictions in Mass!

I REALLY want to do the same but maybe not even a first dance. That's because we are actually entertainers ourselves and very used to the spotlight... Therefore it feels like work. So I'd rather avoid it. Plus our wedding will be intimate (regardless of covid). I'd rather keep it casual and elegant.
The only thing I really wanted was some sort of game for our family and friends that's to see how we'll you know us as a couple. (Because everyone is from different parts of our lives.) Winner(s) get a bottle of champagne!
