no sleep with a snorer. where's my sleep?

Sandra, on August 16, 2014 at 10:31 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 16

OK so I love hubby. Hr is great and we have a wonderful marriage so far. But..... He snores and sometimes I lay in bed thinking why me? So sometimes I try to fall asleep before him so I can sleep. But this doesn't happen most times. He has used breathing strips which work sometimes but is there anything that is better? Did you all learn something about your other half that you didn't know before?

Has he been checked for sleep apnea? A lot of times if someone snores loudly all the time, that's the reason. And if so, both his health and your sleep will benefit from treatment.

I am pretty sure my FH has sleep apnea (he asked the dr about it and the dr blew him off...awesomeness I know)...the first many months we dated and slept over he never snored (or only lightly)...then at like 4-5 months he started snoring a ton...I asked what changed...turned out he was so nervous the first few months that he hadn't been totally sleeping so he didn't mess me up with his loud snoring. Isn't that cute (and sad)!...anyways he is a wake ya out of dead sleep snorer...and I am kinda a sleep insomnia kid so what we do is. I try to fall asleep 1st. Or I will play music when I sleep to help just make it white noise...you might get one of the white noise machines.

Maybe he could try a different sleeping position. It worked for me. When FH is snoring I have him roll over on his side and he quiets down. If he wakes up first and can hear the alarm, maybe you could try ear plugs?

Essential oils! You can diffuse lavender oil, my best friend swears by it. All my friends are raving about the young living essential oils. Cures for everything.

When FH props himself up (like on pillows, in a recliner, or hospital bed) he snores less. I agree with looking into sleeping positions Smiley smile

He is a side sleeper and we got him s new pillow. But randomly snores so bad I think wtf. I have never heard of sleeping oils. Do you just let it infuse the bedroom atmosphere?

You could also try ear plugs.

This is a god send. My FH snores like a chain saw and this is the only thing that keeps him off the couch.

I know what you mean. I have been with my DF for nearly 9 years and I didn't notice he snored til we actually moved in together. I guess all the partying we did together I would sleep it off and being pregnant with my ODS I would knocked out right away. I bought him the strip it did not work. I try the ear plugs. Nope. It didn't work. I would wake up without it. Sometimes I would just leave to the living room and sleep on the couch.

Second the testing for sleep apnea. Try a white noise maker, which you can get online for about $60.

My dad has sleep apnea, but he refuses to wear the machine they gave him so my mom never sleeps! DH - I just roll him over and he's fine. I wear earplugs, that's more just for me (random noises disturb my sleep). My mom has tried a ton of different earplugs they don't really do anything to block out the sounds of snoring. There are also free white noise makers on Youtube. I've used a few to relax when I was worried about an event happening the next day. They work well, but again, they aren't going to work with snoring.

My bil snores like crazy!! I never believed my sister until I spent a weekend at her house, honest to god, the house shakes.

She wears ear plugs, she buys them in bulk lol. He doesn't have sleep apnea, just chronic snoring

My FH only snores when he is on his back so maybe yours needs to learn to sleep in a different position for the sake of your sanity!

Thanks for the suggestion Champagne...just placed an order!!! I love him so much and wouldn't dream of kicking him out of bed...I know he can't help it. Not sure how or why it started...it was like 7-8 months ago when it became consistent (before it would only happen when he was dead tired and sleeping on his back). I don't sleep well to begin with...it's hard to shut my brain off at night to fall asleep & forget about sleeping through the night...I'm up 3-4 times a night because I'm such a light sleeper, then my brain starts up again and so does the process :-(

Unfortunately for me we were woken up by a phone call by one of his associates at 6 this morning and I was in one of those sleeps that was really deep and of course the call jumped us both. Needless to say I didn't even bother trying to go back to sleep and got up and unfortunately for him I have been bitch-face extraordinaire all day long...I wasn't angry at him...I was angry at the lack of common sense on the associate's part...no one was dead & no one was bleeding...it was a decision that needed to be made on a hauling a load on an 18 wheeler (FH is a truck broker)...really, this effing decision couldn't have been made by you (associate) or you couldn't have waited until at least 7????

So this suggestion could not have come at a better time!!! Can you tell I'm crabby????? Poor FH...I think I'll go to bed :-(
