No Seating Chart due to Covid-19

on January 4, 2022 at 10:02 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 9
Is anyone not doing a seating chart due to COVID-19 issues? We are currently 3 days away from our wedding and are having several people a day back out due to either getting COVID or having concerns due to an increase in cases. For example, today we had 11 people say they won’t be coming. Originally I really wanted to have a seating chart, but am starting to reconsider. I have a seating chart typed up, but have been postponing on printing due to this reason. So far I have just been switching it around as we get declines, but at some point it will need to be printed if we still decide to have it. With so much to do in the last few days leading up to the wedding I’m wondering if this is more stress than it’s worth. What are your thoughts? Thanks in advance!

This is one reason why escort cards are easier than a seating chart. You can print escort cards for cheap at home, so you can make last minute changes much easier. Also, I think Covid makes assigned tables even more important to assist in social distancing.

I think with covid being what it is, having a seating chart with some people listed who don't end up coming is perfectly normal. I'd just print the chart, then buy some pretty, fancy metallic tape to go over the names of those who don't come if you need to - you can get really gorgeous, detailed ones and could use something in a colour/pattern that suits your theme.

I'm so sorry that COVID is impacting your wedding. Smiley sad But I do think COVID makes a seating chart or escort cards even more important. I would recommend only seating same households or social circles (people who you know regularly socialize) together at a table, and avoid any mixed groupings. Escort cards definitely give you a lot more flexibility as you can wait until the last minute to choose table numbers.

You could forgo the seating chart altogether and just use name cards at the table. This would allow you to print last minute, move cards/seating as necessary, and to simply remove cards for those not attending.

This is what I’m planning to do - I didn’t even think about the headache of last minute covid cancels! Yikes guess that makes my table list vs seating card decision a lot easier.

We’re having our wedding at the end of the month and I’ve been stressed about what seems like the inevitable last minute changes to printed stationary items (like the table lists) so you’re an angel for posting this! Love reading everyone’s ideas and now I think what we’ll do is use the menus to double as escort cards and then ask our day of coordinator/assistants to just tell guests (we’re only about 50-60) what table number they’ll be at in lieu of the table lists. So we can move things around up until the day before and just send the coordinator the latest list. We’re a DW so printing ourselves last minute seems like a hassle.

I hope you have a beautiful wedding and congrats!!

Agree with this. Seating posters are a headache, both doing them and reading them. Not to mention extremely expensive when you make reprints. Escort cards are very easy and inexpensive. Even escort tent cards already made on Etsy ( some vendors will write out names and assignments if you ask) are a great deal if you are not comfortable with DIY. Or have a friend with great handwriting help out and feed them dinner as payment.

If you don’t assign tables at minimum, you will have pandemonium. Couples get split up, grandma saves a table for people who don’t sit with her. The feeling is very much PTSD from the high school cafeteria.

Definitely name cards, that is even a plus with covid because you can make sure where exactly somebody is sitting up the last day, in case some people feel uncomfortable sitting to others outside of their bubble.
