No Seating Chart and Name Cards

Katie, on February 20, 2020 at 4:24 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 9

Hi, y'all!

I'm having a dinner where guests get choice of protein, but no assigned seating arrangement. I'm thinking of making name cards with their name and choice of protein on it (mostly for the restaurant to find what goes where). I want a sign to have out to tell people what to do, but can't think of how to word it.

Does anyone have any ideas? Has anyone done this? Give me your opinions and ideas if you think this is much too difficult! I'm open to ideas!

So you are doing name cards with the protein stickers? And you also want a seating chart or a sign just to say " Take your seat"?

I’d prefer no seating chart, just a sign that says to sit wherever, make friends, etc. I will probably do name cards with protein stickers!!

Same. I honestly wanted to do a seating chart but if I had choices for food that makes it difficult :/. Name cards and stickers is what my plan is as well

What's your approximate guest count? Honestly, not doing a seating chart can verrrry easily backfire for a number of reasons. I would at least assign tables and have an escort card table where guests can find their place card, which should have a table number and their protein denoted. You can give the table assignments to the caterer ahead of time.

I agree it's a nice thing not to assign tables but then you could get stuck with awkward empty spots which is why most people assigned tables

My sign for my non seating chart arrangement. I have place cards with pens for anyone that needs to reserve seats. We plan to have a few extra tables & chairs. No Seating Chart and Name Cards 1

Have you asked your caterer if they are okay with this? We didn’t assign exact seats but assigned tables and let people put their escort card with their meal choice in front whatever seat they chose at that table. But the waiters already had a headcount of how many chicken dishes went to table 4 so it was easier.

This! While I understand that skipping the seating chart may seem like it’ll be laid back, it’s actually very chaotic. If you’re insistent on skipping it all together, I recommend having 20% more chairs than you need.
