No RSVP cards.

Kailan J., on November 28, 2016 at 2:36 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 31

Is anybody else not doing RSVP cards or a website? I have never seen either of these two until being on here. I just know that most of my family will just verbalize to me that they are coming and not even use them so I would hate to waste the money on. If you didn't do RSVP cards or a website did you just write RSVP and leave your number on an insert? I'm not sure what to do.

The website I agree is a waste.

I would seriously reconsider RSVP cards. I haven't been to a plated meal without it and imagine a disaster. It makes it very easy to track who has RSVP'd and what their meal choices are. Also, it holds people semi-responsible for responding whether or not they are coming.

How are you going to keep track of who is coming? How many people do you have coming? If it's less than 20, verbal RSVPing may work, but you need a way to keep track of people and their plus ones and families.

Yeah you're going to want to do RSVP cards and or a website RSVP. The ONLY exception would be if you're having a very small wedding (i.e. less than 25-30 people). The month or two before your wedding will be INSANE and the last thing you'll want to do is have to remember to write down that Joe Schmo is coming when you're not home near your list. I also used my RSVP cards to finalize meals and even seating chart.

You need RSVPs. You'll thank us later.

Well I am glad I decided to bring this up instead of just blowing it off and saying it is fine. So the real question, spend money on RSVP cards or do a website!?

@Kailan - I would do cards. I personally won't remember to RSVP to a website. Hell, I don't even look at wedding websites. If the info isn't on the invite, I will call or text the bride or someone in the bridal party. Most wedding websites are a waste of time and not well laid out.

I think I will go with the website! I already bought invitations though. Do I just get an insert with website info? What does it say? Sorry if these are dumb questions. I'm just clueless.

I agree that having RSVP cards or RSVPing to a website will make your life much easier! You can have an RSVP card that says to call you, but I'd imagine you'd end up having to follow up with a ton of people!

ETA: Just saw your most recent comments Smiley smile You can add an insert with the website link!

Cards. my mom's argument for pro card was that it gave guests that traditional feel. I'm a traditional type gal :/

I'm doing RSVP on our website. I just had it printed please rsvp at our website address and rsvp by date. You could easily have that printed on an insert for your invites.

We're not using the rsvp cards, we have the website initially, and if they prefer, they can reach out to us via text, call or messenger. As long as they actually say they're coming we're good. just don't show up without saying something!!! lol

My cousin didn't have RSVP cards. She had no RSVP mechanism at all. My mom had no idea what to do! We ended up telling her sister (the cousin who is having a baby!!!). It wasn't a played meal; more like an appetizer buffet followed by a meal buffet. I'm guessing she just gave her caterer the number of guests invited and dealt with the cost/excess.

We're doing online. The first person actually RSVP'd today (we sent out STDs and I guess people just thought they should get it over with?). I just printed up an insert card with the website on it

We did the RSVP website. So far 2 people have actually used it (one with prompting) everyone else has just told us in person, called, or texted us they are coming. But I think if we had sent cards they would have done the same thing.

I've thought about setting up an extra email specifically for RSVPs instead of doing a website. I also am not sure about whether to bother with a card. I don't want to pay for the extra postage when I know most people won't bother sending it back -- and it's also complicated since most of my FH's family is coming from Ireland. Seems like most of them have already figured out how to make hotel reservations at our block though before we have even sent out proper invitations, so I'm sure an email or online RSVP for international folks will work out.
