No reception venue for an hour drive???

Elizabeth, on March 22, 2021 at 3:13 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 13
My fiancé and I have this beautiful outdoor chapel in the mountains chosen as our ideal ceremony location. BUT they don’t have a reception space or allow food or anything. And because it’s in the mountains it’s about an hour to anywhere else for a reception.
His parents house is about an hour and 15 minutes from there. We thought a backward reception would be a sweet affordable option, but making guests drive SO FAR feels rude. I’m questioning our current venue choice as it’s not very affordable anyway.
Tips and ideas appreciated!

Go on eventective.com or the local parks department website and see what is closest to the chapel. Is there a park type facility you can rent nearby?

An hour drive is not ideal though some venues require it. But anything over 60 minutes is too far. If nothing else you can take engagement pictures there and get married at a closer venue without the drive.

I would switch the venue, an hour+ drive between ceremony and reception isn’t practical.

I think that’s too far of a drive between venues.

I would find a different venue, I just don't see that as realistic for your guests

I would look into another venue, a lot of your guests are not going to want to make the drive unfortunately

Agree with others! The only way this would work is if your future in laws would be willing to host a giant sleepover for all of your guest - otherwise, no one will want to make that kind of drive.

I think your best bet is changing the venue if you want a wedding reception! Good luck!

I’ve driven an hour for a reception but we stopped for a snack because I was getting hangry.
Is the drive to the mountains easy or are the roads all twisty and poor quality? That would be my concern, that they’d have a tough drive there and then another drive an hour to get to the reception.

    Thanks!
They are kinda twisty not so great. We haven’t booked the venue. Just set my heart on it and having to change is sad, but I definitely care about my guests and their convenience

I had a venue that I loved so much, I had stars in my eyes looking at it...but it just wouldn’t have worked and I’m still kinda bummed.

I would look for another venue. As a guest, I would not drive an hour between ceremony and reception.
