No Receiving Line

Anyway, guests and FH said that they don't want a receiving line. I've recently went to a wedding where the couple spent all of dinner moving from table to table. It seemed a little forced and it was awkward to try to make conversation while stuffing my face with chicken.

Any ideas on how and when to greet guests? What's the best way to greet everyone?

I'm on year eight and I have not seen one receiving line. Typically B&G eat first and then go to tables to say hello. It really doesn't take too long. Once you are done let the dancing begin.

We plan on doing one with just us. We will be greeting the guests as they leave the ceremony area to head to the reception venue. I've never been to a wedding without one and I want one just in case there are guests who won't be attending the reception so I can still get the chance to talk to them even if it is for a bit.

I'm not doing a receiving line as well. We are on a tight schedule from the church to the ceremony and I have about 160 coming. FH and I will be greeting and thanking everyone throughout cocktail hour and the reception.

We are not doing a receiving line either - our ceremony and reception are all in one location and cocktail hour is going to be held right where the ceremony was, so having a place to execute one properly would have been near impossible with the venue removing chairs and people mingling. So we're going to go directly to our pictures from the ceremony and then we'll do the table visits after cutting the cake. Our wedding is small though so table visits would be quick and easy.

As of now, we have a guest list of 250 and we're planning to do a receiving line. I'm the first in my family not to have a full catholic wedding *clutch pearls* so this is the compromise with my parents, who are helping us pay for a large portion of the wedding.

Engineer? It will take at least 45 minutes.

If you do choose to do a receiving line, include on the invitation a set time the receiving line will end, so that you aren't standing in a line all night! It could be worded like: "Receving line from seven o'clock to eight o'clock, drinks and dancing to follow" or any other variation. This way the guests know when it will end, and will not attempt to go through the line all night

We aren't doing one. After ceremony, we're having VIPs take quick pics with us/photographer, then bridal party & our photos. During reception, our family will come to us, so we're not even going to bother.
