Anyone not have a wedding photographer and ended up totally happy about it? Alternative, Anyone have a wedding photographer and maybe wish they saved the $4500?

Are you having issues? I am not sure anyone not having pics of their day was happy. I am sure I would not want to spend $4500 either lol.

Yikes, you can def find someone for $1500, maybe less! $4500 is ridiculous. Find someone that’s newer to photography that still does a good job.

$4500 is an insane amount to spend on photography. We’re paying a quarter of that? Have you considered a middle ground? Fewer hours or a different photographer?

It’s not about the cost. We just don’t feel like we need it. With guests photos, we feel it is enough

The other option is if you’ve got friends with nice cameras

Not sure we can. We’ve found some newbies, but our location is in Thousand Oaks in California and we haven’t found anyone that cheap. But it’s not about money.

We’re not having issues with any photographer or cost, we’re just thinking it’s not worth it? Looking for others that maybe have a similar experience.

I like that Melle. I think we will still get moments that are significant and beautiful without having to line up my family and “pose”

So we hired a photographer, but I expected us to get a decent amount of guest photos because several of our guests take pictures for everything and a few of them dabble in photography as a side business. We got about two dozen guest photos and all but 3 were super blurry and those 3 that weren’t were just pictures of one of us with the person taking the photo during the reception. Nothing we could have blown up/hung in our home.

Sarah, maybe we’re the weird ones here, but we don’t want a big blown up picture from our wedding.

I think honestly not having footage of such an important day would bother you in the long run. Even I look back at pics of trips I have taken and it puts a smile on my face. I feel your wedding day would be that. I would suggest finding a more affordable photographer so even if you both do not feel it was that necessary then you did not spend too much money. I would think that for a wedding there are other parts that it does not make sense to spend thousands but good photography is worth it but each bride is different. You two have to do what is best for you both.

The only issue I see with this is you are now depending on your guests and if I am at someone's wedding I want to have a good time and not feel like I need to provide pics. Or as Sarah said you have to hope that guests are taking pictures. Most weddings I have been to some pics are taken but most guests are just socializing and enjoying the food and drink.

Is there any specific reason why you are thinking you don’t want photographs?

Both my FW and I are not exactly interested in posing for these photos. We will want a few intimate pictures of getting ready, first look, and maybe first dance, but otherwise, we aren't interested in posing. It is so artificial, at least in my opinion. The price doesn't really have anything to do with it, in fact we still have it in out budget. We also have framed pictures of ourselves in our home, and our most loved photos are taken on an iPhone or by a friend. Also, we are going to have a photobooth to capture goofy reception photos. We think this kind of posing is playful and genuine because everyone participating is choosing to do so. She and I have never been traditional, so why start now?

I would be so disappointed if I didn’t have a professional photographer at my wedding. I keep hearing how fast the day goes and I want to be able to see all the emotion of the day captured professionally. If you’re looking for a photographer who does more candid than posed, I’ve got a great recommendation in So Cal. They’re comparable in the cost you posted, but everything wedding I’ve seen them do is a work of art.

Our favorite pictures from our engagement shoot from our photographers are the candid ones. If you look for photographers who have a photojournalistic style, you may find some that you like more.

You may not want one now but you’ll probably regret that some moments weren’t captured in a couple months/years after the wedding. It’s not a guarantee that people will take many or any decent photos. I think you should download the thumbtack app and find a very inexpensive photographer in your area. That way you’ll have some quality photos And you’ll only be out of a couple hundred bucks if you think it’s a waste.

I’d say just hire a photographer for a few hours then instead of the whole day to get photos of the getting ready and the ceremony. That way you’re not posing but you’re getting those memories in good quality. I’d prefer a photographer over guest photos in the ceremony just because I want the guests to be present, not messing with their phones and you know the photographer would have the best quality.

We originally did not want a photographer at all as we didn’t want 100s of posed photos. But in the end we decided we would regret not having photos of the day. So we’re having a photographer for 2.5hrs. Getting ready, ceremony, a few pics of us and our immediate family during the cocktail hour and the rest pictures of our guests as they are enjoying the evening . Our photographer will leave before the reception.

I do totally agree with you though for sure! Because these photos even if they’re “posed” come out so beautifully with a photographer!

To the OP though - my favorite photos happened to be the ones I wasn’t posing! The photographer I had just kept clicking away even in between poses and those in between where I was just genuinely laughing were my favorite.
