No Parent Dances

Want some input!

So, at my wedding we aren’t doing parent dances. This is just my preference. But for my timeline everyone is saying don’t cut your cake too early because it signals guests to leave. We aren’t, thanks to COVID, even serving our cake we are basically cutting it after dinner and planning to go right into an open dance floor. We do have a “cookie table” that the DJ will announce to guests that they can go to.

Has anyone done this type of format?

We cut our cake immediately after dinner, speeches, and dances. There were a few people that left after that, but they were all older and probably would have left at that point whether the cake was cut or not.

I have never though cake cutting signaled to leave. All weddings I have been to even after cake cutting it is more dancing. As the pp said if anyone left after it is because they wanted to. I do not think that will be what people think.

Cake signalling the end of the reception is how the older generation weddings were done. It's common to skip spotlight dances after the first dance. Trust your dj/coordinator who do this every week to map out the timeline with you. Most guests will play it by ear until there's announcement the party is ending.

I think that timeline sounds great Bethany!

After you announce the cookie table and open the dance floor I think it will be clear you've finished the traditional reception elements and have entered the "party" portion of the night! For those who want to duck out early they can do so whenever!

That's just about how mine went. I don't think anyone left after cake cutting.
