I did some research about mail cancelling when I was preparing to send ouf my invitations. I had no idea it was even a concern until I read an article suggesting to request the post office hand cancelled your wedding invitations so that when the invitations arrive there isn't a big ink stamp randomly printed by a machine (probably crooked) across the envelope and the stamp (kinda ruins the look). Hand cancelling, prints a smaller ink stamp and a human has control on how its placed. Don to time constraints, I decided to go ahead and just dump them into the mailbox without requesting hand cancelling. However, My aunt sent me a picture of the invitation when it arrived and surprisingly, there were no markings of cancelling at all. Apparently, USPS can now electronically cancel the stamps if they have a barcode or QR scan. I really never put 2 and 2 together, but I thought I would share for the brides who might be concerned about the stamp cancelling process or looking for more information. I couldn't find anything online about electronic cancelling. Example attached.
