No more receiving line due to covid...

Christina, on May 18, 2020 at 7:45 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 8

My fiance and I really want to great everyone right after the ceremony so we can relax a little more during the rest of the night, knowing we at least greeted and thanked everyone, so we were planning on having a receiving line. I know due to covid a receiving line might not be a good idea. Does anyone have any other ideas how to accomplish this? I went to a wedding where the couple went around to each table, passing out favors, and used that to make sure they saw everyone. We weren't planning on having favors though.

If you are hosting an event and everyone there is exposed to everyone else, I don't see how a receiving line would be any better or worse than not doing one.

That said, many people do table visits to greet/thank everyone individually (instead of a receiving line) and there's no need to pass out favors while doing table visits.

I had the same thought and I think what we might do is provide a champagne toast for everyone right after the ceremony instead of at dinner. Then for the “receiving line” you can clink and cheers instead of hugging/kissing people. This might be a challenge if you’re getting married in a church, but our ceremony/reception are being held in the same place, so we thought we’d start off the cocktail hour this way.

We had everyone come up to our sweetheart table for photos. I'm not sure we got everyone, but we tried - and then I was on the dance floor all night. DH mostly joined me, but he sometimes went around and chatted.

If everyone is all together as it is, though, I can't see how a receiving line would make any difference.

You can still go around to every table even without favors. That's typically what I've seen at weddings.

I like that idea! I would just fear someone spilling on me when they clink...

I feel the same way. I've heard some people concerned about it, so I was deciding to avoid it for people's comfort, even if it doesn't completely make sense.

I did see someone say they took pictures at each table. That might be a way to keep things moving so no one monopolizes us, which is my fear.

Oh dear! I didn’t think of that. Maybe air clinks then 😂
