No Minister

Angela, on August 27, 2020 at 7:35 PM Posted in Planning 0 6
So, I find myself at a cross road. I moved my wedding to next year, due to covid. It was supposed to be in about 2 weeks, now it is 5/15/21. Well, covid has struck again. The minister who was to do our counseling and marry us, passed away due to covid. We are lost, my FH grew up attending church where she was a pastor and we attended her new church when she branched out. I was looking forward to her counseling and the ceremony.....now I am just lost. No minister, not sure if we will be able to have all the guests to attend due to social distancing, our honey moon cruise is paid for but will we even get to do that? Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks for reading, if you made it this far.

I would definitely start looking for another minister, but as far as worrying about Covid? If you aren’t getting married until May I wouldn’t stress too much about it right now, it’s still awhile away.

Sorry for your friend's passing, it's such a sad state of affairs, but I don't think you should have this bring you down. Enjoy your wedding, and start searching for a minister that would make your friend proud.

I’m so sorry! I know it’s not the same to just go out and find someone new. I hope you’re able to find someone who you two connect with.

I think it’s too soon to worry about Covid and guests, honeymoon, etc. I do think you should look into potential options for an officiant. While you cannot replace the relationship you had with your original minister, the church will most likely be getting a new minister who will take over. Once this person is assigned, you can take a little bit of time to get to know him/her to see if you’d be comfortable with them officiating your wedding. You can also look into ministers from churches nearby or in a neighboring town, etc. as a possible back up plan.

I'm so sorry this has happened to you. Not that this is a bright side, but you said your wedding was supposed to be in 2-weeks, just think how you would be feeling if your pastor passed knowing you're getting married in 2-weeks and suddenly having to scramble to find someone to officiate. At least you have a minute to find someone new and you can BOTH connect with them on a personal and new level.

As for a wedding / honeymoon next year, it's far to early to worry about Covid affecting it. Focus on the here and now. I'm confident everything will work out in your favor.
