No matching outfits for "getting ready" photos

Hannah, on August 22, 2017 at 2:35 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 20

I didn't buy robes or monogrammed tank tops or pajamas or any of that for "getting ready" photos with my bridesmaids. the plan is meeting the photographer at the venue and just taking 30 min or so to snap some photos of us getting our dresses on and doing finishing touches or whatever (we will already have our hair and makeup done at this point) do you think I made a mistake in not getting matching outfits for all of us? Will our pictures be stupid ? Lol. did anyone else NOT do the matching robes/outfit thing? am I overthinking this

We didn't plan on having any getting ready photos, our photographer showed up a little early and she got some pictures of me being helped into my dress, and some group shots when we were all ready. I don't think those pictures are necessary and I think what you're planning is fine!

Yes, you are overthinking it. No your pictures won't be stupid. The people in the photos are more important than their color coordination.

The only person who cares about this stuff is the bride. You don't need matching outfits, everyone can dress themselves lol

If you want to match maybe ask all your girls to wear the same color bottoms and the same color tops. I would pick a color everyone has like black bottoms & a white shirt.

Totally not necessary! Pinterest is definitely to blame for this one. (And this is coming from someone who did fall victim to it.)

I can't begin to think what my bridesmen would say to matching outfits. Smiley smile

No need for matching outfits! Truthfully I think they look kind of cheesy in some scenarios. I wanted a robe because I actually just want a robe and it will be perfect to get ready in, I also got them for my mom and sister (no bridal party, just my sister as MOH) because they wanted them as well. As long as you and your bridal party are happy and having a good time, the pictures will be stunning!

This is 100% one of those Pinterest/social media trends that makes you feel like its necessary but its not!

I won't be doing the outfit thing. Our photographer is meeting us at the venue after we get hair/makeup done at a separate place. Our photographer will get pictures of us stepping into the dresses, FW and her WP getting on their suits, my ladies helping me with jewelry, etc.

I think it will be fine!

For a wedding I was in we all wore black yoga pants and black shirt and the bride wore a white shirt. We were still uniformed and no one had to spend money.

I don't know if this is an UO here, but I am really not a fan of the matching outfit (especially robes) getting ready pictures. They always seem like forced to me (like trying too hard). I don't think you will regret not having matching outfit pictures after the fact.

I was in a wedding where we all wore black tanks and yoga pants and bride wore a white bride tank. Easy for everyone, as most everyone has that at home!

I wouldn't say you're "overthinking" it because I was in the same boat as you! I don't care for robes or having monogrammed "bridesmaid" shirts, but I was curious if I'd regret not having these pictures. In the end, I decided I could care less. I brought this up to one of my bridesmaids one time (since we were on a similar subject) and her response was "Oh thank gosh, I hate robes," ha!

Though I do like @kerri and @SoonToBeSalerno's idea, if you kind of want to go for that look but want to save money.

I didn't get matching getting ready stuff (or any getting ready stuff) and don't even plan to have getting ready photos. I know some of them are super cute, but I'm not going to frame too many wedding photos, and the ones I pick surely won't be the getting ready photos.

I'm so glad you asked this question because I'm not a fan of the matching outfits either. I just want my bridesmaids to be themselves!

I don't think your pictures will be stupid at all - they will show you and your closed friends relaxing and celebrating before your big moment. You will look just as happy in different shirts/outfits than you would if you were clones.

I don't care for the matching outfits either; it really does seem kind of contrived.....
