No makeup engagement photo shoot

on October 23, 2019 at 11:16 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 20
Hi there! I never wear makeup, and I’m planning on doing my engagement session barefaced (with some lip stick action). If you have done a no makeup engagement shoot, would you kindly share your photos? I just want to get an idea on what it’ll look like and if it’s doable.

Also, professional photographers, what are your thoughts on no makeup engagement shoots?

ps, I’ll wear makeup on my wedding day.

I wore no make up on my engagement shoot and my wedding aha. Just felt normal to me. Also be mindful of getting the right lighting even if you have make up on

I did wear makeup for our engagement shoot, but I don't wear any face products (foundation, concealer, contour, etc.). The only thing I have on in our photos is eye makeup (including brow powder) and some lipstick, so my skin is completely bare! I know that's not "no makeup", but if you can ignore the eyes, it may as well be Smiley xd

I was really worried I'd look "washed out" like so many articles told me if I didn't have professional face makeup for high quality photos. I'm SO happy with the way they turned out, so I'll be doing my own makeup for the wedding! It was such a relief to be happy with the way my bare skin looked in high quality photos so I don't have to cake on face products that I never wear, especially on a day where I definitely want to look like myself!

Thank you for sharing Amber! These are beautiful photos and your skin is flawless! I think I might just do eyebrows and lips. Those are the only 2 things I know how to apply 😂

I'm jealous of you gals that can get away with no or minimal makeup!

As someone with super fair skin and red hair (so lighter brows and lashes), makeup will really help with bringing out features and avoiding washout. Even in regular photos with my day-to-day makeup on, I can easily look like a sickly Victorian person lol, it's terrible. I also just happen to love makeup, so I'll be going a bit more glam for my engagement photos/wedding pics.

Amber - if I didn't know any better, I would've thought you were wearing a full face including blush. Your complexion is lovely!

My friend never wears makeup and didn't apply anything for her engagement photos and looked great. She also opted to do very light makeup on her wedding day, and was glad she did.

I think you'll look fab in both sets of photos, with or without makeup!

What the heck, your skin is so pretty and clear!!! I wish I could pull that off. I told the MUA to cake that stuff on. LOL

Oh my word you're stunning! It's nice to see how your photos turned out and know that you don't have anything on your face, because I always read that you want to kind of amp up your makeup for photos. I'll be doing my own makeup as well so it makes me happy to see that I can just do what I do for everyday and be just fine. Your pictures are beautiful! And your dog is adorable!

Awww thank you!! I was so relieved with how they turned out, I've had a "full-face" of makeup maybe twice and I felt SO uncomfortable Smiley xd

Thank you so much!!! I'll definitely make my makeup a little more "glam" for the wedding, but I'm really glad I decided not to have my makeup done professionally. I wouldn't look or feel like myself! Thank you again, our pup definitely stole the show lol Smiley shame

I love this photo! You both look really good! I think I’ll probably go with lipstick and eyebrows colored in. I see a lot of good examples here of engagement shoots with just lipsticks and some sort of eye enhancing makeup.

I'm a photographer, although I mostly photograph non-people subjects. I'm also a girl who doesn't wear much makeup on a regular basis, so totally get the desire to stay natural for photos. If you never wear makeup, I say it's totally okay to go that way for your engagement shoot!

If you want to look a little more put together but still not have a ton of makeup I think just a little BB cream or tinted moisturizer, some lip color (whether a gloss, sheer color, or lipstick), and curling your eyelashes (whether or not you use mascara, curling your lashes can have a huge impact in making your eyes look brighter and more awake) can go a long way. I also like putting a little brow gel on to frame my face because I'm blond and the edges of my brows sometimes disappear into my face. You'll feel beautiful but still feel like yourself!

Just gonna throw out there that all the ladies who have shared their no makeup/minimal makeup photos look amazing. I love the natural look and that you ladies are staying true to yourselves. That's inspiration right there!

    Kari,
Thank you for telling me about the bb cream! I’ve never used bb cream before but I just did some googling and it seems it’s something I can manage! It’s a great tip!
