No Make Up at Wedding

I don't wear make up. I mean it, I never wear it. So when it comes to our wedding, I am wondering if I should maybe have something on my face other than a nervous look. I have tried wearing make up and really, no matter who - whether amateur or professional - puts make up on me, I take it off...

I don't wear make up. I mean it, I never wear it. So when it comes to our wedding, I am wondering if I should maybe have something on my face other than a nervous look.

I have tried wearing make up and really, no matter who - whether amateur or professional - puts make up on me, I take it off straight away as it feels so alien to me, and I do not like what I see in the mirror. I am not attractive at all anyway, so what is reflected back at me is simply a covered up ugly girl LOL.

Trouble is, I know my fiance's mother will be adamant I wear make up, as she is very involved in the planning and wants the bling. I will have no-one on the day apart from my son to represent me, so I will feel the pressure closer to the time to do simply do what those around me want me to do.

I will not feel myself with make up on, but I don't want to let anyone down. What should I do?

I'm getting married in April and when I told my mom and my bridesmaids (ie my sisters) I wasn't going to wear a lot of makeup or get it professionally done their responses were less than supportive. The expectation that brides should have to cake on layers of makeup is another way of society (primarily women) telling other women that they are inadequate while telling men that they are completely adequate in their natural state. No one has said to my fiancé "you'll be shiny if you don't wear foundation" or "you don't have to wear foundation, but your skin will look pale and uneven". As a society we question why women are paid less than men while we continue to make comments to each other that suggest a woman's face and body need to be "enhanced" and that our natural appearance isn't good enough. Look, I have nothing against makeup, I think it's fun to occasionally experiment with new colors and looks. I'm also going to wear a little makeup on my wedding day. But I'm going to wear the makeup that makes me feel comfortable and beautiful. Only I can decide what that is. I just think we should all (myself included!) be cognizant of the gender norms we propagate when we say things like "every girl needs a little mascara!"
