I know every couple is different. And I know that weddings do take time to plan. Maybe we're crazy!? So FH and I agreed even before we got engaged that we didn't want a super long engagement. Our engagement will be just about 6 1/2 months. We're not prego, just want to get married and don't see...

I know every couple is different. And I know that weddings do take time to plan. Maybe we're crazy!? Smiley smile So FH and I agreed even before we got engaged that we didn't want a super long engagement. Our engagement will be just about 6 1/2 months. We're not prego, just want to get married and don't see any reason why to have a long engagement. I'm just curious about how others feel about this.

When my older sister got married (my MOH), she planned her wedding in about 2 months! And that same year, my brother got married, their engagement was about 5 so I know it can be done!

I say do whatever makes you happy!!

The only reason FH & I haven't jumped the broom is for $$ reasons and we really want to have a special day that is memorable (so the J.O.P was not an option!)....

6 wks, 6 mos, 6 yrs......whatever is best for you!

Go for it! Everyone is different. You can't really put a number on things like that.

I like how a few of you said "our engagement was longer...like 8, 9 months"! Me personally, when June of next year comes, it will be 19 months. I love being engaged. I love the feeling. I love the reactions. I love saying "my fiance". I love being with my "fiance". I love when HE says "my fiance". I just honestly love the feeling of being engaged. You're only engaged once! (hopefully!) We have the rest of our lives to be married. Why rush it? That's just our preference. We don't want to spend our engagement ONLY talking about planning for a our wedding. What flowers, dresses, tuxedo's, catering, etc etc...

Plus, we are getting married in Baltimore and I'm originally from Minnesota, so all of my guests will be out of town. It's nice to give them extra time to plan and save.

But like I said, more power to ya! Just make sure you enjoy your engagement!

Yolanda are you already married? It shows your date to be this year? I'm confused : { .

Anywho, Rachel, My FH asked me to marry him Dec 24th of last year (his mother's birthday) We have a 6 month engagement. I have almost completely finished everything that we need. I need to do a few touch up on things but I still have 2 1/2 months to go too. The only thing is, you need to book your venue NOW because alot of tthem require (or are booked up) in 6 months.

Good luck, You can get tons of advice on WW. It's a great place to be when you are getting married. I just wish I would've known about this site the first month or so that I was engaged!

We've got the venue booked, have the colors picked. The ball is rolling, there are meetings coming up and a tasting next week, can't wait for that! I think we might try some DIY centerpieces and maybe a couple other DIY projects.

So far I really enjoy going through the forums on here, learning about what to do and not do to. I think it is really helpful having this community online!

You can definitely do it, I planned my mothers wedding in 1 month, so it can be done. Of course I would have liked a little more time, but it was doable.

As women we already know what we want, it's just a matter of paying for it and working out a minor details.

I started planning my wedding in January, and I have run out of things to plan, I am just waiting to be able to pay things off and for my date to arrive. Having extra time has just made me spend more money because I keep seeing great ideas from other people on here. My friend told me to stay off wedding wire and don't watch wedding show or read wedding magazines. I have control over everything but wedding wire. It is so addictive!

Our engagement is around 4 months. It can totally be done! And it hasn't been very stressful at all! It actually almost makes things easier. Once we found a venue available in the month we wanted and a caterer that was available the same day we booked them. From there we just booked the first personable, reputable, moderately priced DJ, bakery, rehearsal dinner venue, florist, photographer, ect that was available on the day. We weren't left with just a ton of options so there wasn't any "shopping around" or "wishy-washy" decision making. I had nearly everything booked (venue, caterer, DJ, florist, bakery, photographer) within a week. It consumed our entire lives for a little while....but we did it!

And just to clarify, I haven't had any help from my family or friends (not because they don't want to, I'm just controlling and know what I want). So I'm speaking from someone who has planned a wedding, by herself, in a very short amount of time.

You can do it. I think it's different for everyone as many of the women have already stated. My engagement will be just under 9 months.

We got engaged at the end of Aug on vacation, found our venue in Oct so we really only had about 8 months to plan and I tell everyone I know. HAVE A LONG ENGAGEMENT. I feel like you honestly need at least a year to plan to not feel so stressed. I am beyond stressed and seriously have a break down once a week. But i dont handle stress very well and am practically planning the whole wedding with veeeryy little help.

I say do what works for you... we got engaged in november but being so close to the holidays we didn't start planning till feb... and it can be done, we didn't want a long engagement either, we just want to be married already lol... if it wasn't for the dress and venue we would probably move it up by two months!

I would have loved a short engagement, but in order to afford the wedding we wished to have, it took the 1 1/2 year engagement to save.

In FH's social circle we are the longest engagement by far, the rest were 6 months or less.
