No hotel blocks available

J, on February 12, 2018 at 2:38 PM Posted in Planning 0 9

So I'm just kinda winging all this planning stuff, and I'm not exactly on top of everything. Getting married Sept. 15, 2018 and I booked my venue last fall. Well, I waited on the hotel block thing and now I'm finding out all the hotels in my town are full for blocks and so are the ones in the neighboring town. They have regular retail rooms available, but are requiring a 2-night stay! I think there are a few big events going on that weekend, plus one of the hotels just announced its closing so people have moved their wedding stuff to these other hotels. I have more hotels to call yet, but I don't think I'm going to find anything! I did book a room for my FH and I at the place we wanted. But my guests and wedding party will have to be on their own to find a hotel. Smiley sad

Anyone else have this problem? And is anyone else not doing hotel blocks?

I haven't had that issue but one thing I suggested to a lot of my guest especially ones who were close is looking into AirBnBs because it would be cheaper the more people you could get to stay in one, often cheaper than the cost of staying in a hotel.

I had the same issue... All of a sudden the rooms were booking up. The hotel we wanted wouldn't accommodate blocks, but when you went online to book they had availability. We were looking for a hotel with a bar. We finally found one. It is still a challenge because they will not allow early check-ins. The ceremony is at four. On the information insert I included the blocked hotel information and that we will have an after party and transportation will be provided to and from the wedding that day. Plus a brunch afterwards. Underneath I listed other hotels in the area. Another local bride I spoke too had the same issue. She listed hotels in the area for people.

Hotels in my city do not do courtesy blocks so I am doing a rate agreement instead. Guests use my code when booking and it guarantees them a set rate but does not block out the rooms for them. I am also providing a list of popular hotels in the area and having guests tell me where they are staying when they RSVP so I know where to run transportation from.

Right! They won't take blocks, but they have rooms open, but they won't give me a room for just one night that weekend, has to be 2!

I decided To just list hotels in the area and not do any blocks. We don’t have that many out of town era and there’s a lot of hotels in the vicinity. It was just one more vendor I wasn’t interested in getting into business with.

My venue is a resort, and they won't do hotel blocks, only a rate agreement, so as soon as guests can book, we're telling them so they can jump on it. If you can, try to tell or remind guests to try to book hotel rooms or AirBnBs as quickly as possible so they can reserve a room nearby, particularly if you have OOT guests! As long as most of your guests can book quickly and snag a room, you should be OK without hotel blocks. It just might mean guests are at different hotels across your town, but in the long run it's not a big deal.

I work in a resort town. There is only 1 hotel in the area that allows a 1 night booking and they don't do blocks. Sometimes that's just the breaks. Guests can decide for themselves where to stay and as another PP mentioned, AirBnB is an option as well. I wouldn't stress too much about it as there is nothing you can do anyway.

I feel like my hotel coordinator is hinting/pushing for two nights because they won't allow early check-in before the wedding. If anything list on the information card of where they can book hotel rooms. My MIL made a good point, most people who are coming out of town will be staying two nights because they will come to the rehearsal and visit with family.
